General Questions for 2021

Plebe life is going to get better though, there is no more CTO position, (company training officer), there's also no RTOA. Those are two of the main positions that punish plebes. The administration says that we shouldn't make plebes' lives suck for no reason. So it'll be a better time.

Where is the fun in that?

That's how I feel, I guess it's cool that I was probably in the last class where the training staff actually cared enough to mess with us. Now that I look back on it, it was a lot of fun. Sad, 2021 isn't going to have the post-indoc fun that we did. My class was also the last class to do the running of the plebes, that got cancelled for 2020.

Good to know! We are arriving in town Thursday night so we can enjoy the full experience. Not sure if we will be be coming every Parents Weekend as we live quite far, but making the most of this one!

Yeah, nobodys parents come except the plebes or people who live really close. Plus, if your son is B split, he'll be at sea for the next 2 parents weekends. So it's really a non-issue.

Yeah, me either. . . . unless he means the run for recognition. . .
Nope, the running of the plebes is the Sunday after indoc is over, the plebes think that they are going to take their first PKT...So they get into ackerman, and see all of the DIs wearing indoc gear. Then everyone runs back to the barracks, changes out of khaki, and runs to tomb field. and they just PT the plebes on tomb field for an hour. Its like the last indoc moment for the DIs to PT the whole class as a group. and almost all of the upper class on campus watch. But it got cancelled for 2020.

I guess the academy has changed some. They say you're a plebe until you go to sea, I'm going to be technically 2nd class in a week, and I've never really been to sea.

Did you get caught in the stand down? Have you had any sea time, or are they going to have you go out this year?

I have almost a third of the "sea service" for my license, which is normal for after first sailing...however, there multiple ways that you can get sea service without actually going to sea. Kind of technical, for someone who isn't familiar. You can accrue sea service on ships on ROS (reduced operating status), which means they don't leave the dock. You can also accrue sea service on academy vessels, which count 1.5x commercial service for some reason. So, all in all, I've done very little to accrue what I have, and I'm probably going to get destroyed when I go out again in November commercially.

Just keep your head down and your ears open. . . .

We used to say "you're a plebe until you see one".

Oh yeah, we say that too. But it depends on whom you're trying to offend. A 4/C yeah you would say that, if you're trying to roast an A Split 3/C you'd say "you're a plebe till you go to sea" or call them a "super-plebe".

3/C is a "Plebe with wings" (Eagle collar devices on top of the Plebe Anchors)

As an incoming plebe candidate who is going to play lacrosse, do I need to bring my lacrosse sticks with me to Indoc or will I have another chance for them to be shipped to the Academy before the season starts?

You can bring them if you would like or and if your parents are coming for parents weekend they can bring them then. With that being said, have you contacted the coach to see if there is a welcome gathering for incoming lacrosse players? If there is, you should be able to bring them and this is usually the day before you report. If you have not contacted the coach, you should reach out to him and he will guide you accordingly.

Congrats and Good Luck with Indoc - Welcome to the KP family.

Can any band co members comment on the quality of the horns the school provides? I am trying to determine if I should come to indoc carrying my personal trumpet from home or only a mouthpiece.

My 2020 DS currently plays trumpet in the band and took his trumpet to Indoc. He says the instruments provided by the academy are pretty poor quality, So, if you like your instrument, I suggest you bring it. My 2021 DS will be taking his trumpet to Indoc as well. You can leave them in O'Hara when you check in and pick them up at the end of day-zero. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about Band Co. It's a great group of people.

This is true of almost everything which is provided to you at the academy, including food, haircuts, laundry services, etc. It's all of pretty poor quality. Get used to it, the government goes for the lowest bidder.
