Does anyone know if there is a PRT administered on/ immediately after I-Day? I've had sources (online, grads, etc) tell me yes and no.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. PS routine is always tweaked from year to year. Sometimes one is given at the start to set a baseline and identify strugglers or borderline plebes. Sometimes the approach is to work up to it.

You have 4 months to ensure you don't have to worry about when it's given. You just roll in there confident of your ability to knock it out with a passing score. Or more. Whenever it is given. In whatever heat or humidity is going on. Because you have done the work to prepare. Your body will have the muscle memory and your brain the confidence. It will be a gift you give yourself.

There is some sort of PT test done the first day of PEP. I can't remember if it's the PRT or slightly different. Maybe a current Mid can remember. I remember being in a daze doing it. I was also a detailer and administered it. Half the new Plebes were still so in the fog, shocked, lost, confused they could barely do a push up. Also humidity hit some of them hard who weren't used to it. We used it to gauge fitness, but I remember after a few days we had a much better idea who was really in shape and wasn't regardless of how they scored. I don't remember using the scores for anything. Your PRT for record will be done at the end of Plebe Summer.

Is the USNA PRT the same as the regular Navy's? Im in NROTC now and still waiting to hear back from USNA, but I have heard the standards for USNA are higher.

USNA standards are higher than fleet standards. A quick Google search will take you to them. For men minimums, 45 PU, 65 SU and 10:30 run. Max is 100/100/and 8 something if I remember right.

The Physical Strength Test (PST) is taken the first or second day of PEP. Basically 2 minutes of push-ups and sit-ups, followed by a mile run. You'll be split into groups based on your times (Group 1-6 I think, 1 obviously the fastest kids and 6 needing more motivation from detailers). Point of all this is for you to improve and pass your PRT that will count for the Fall Semester at the end of PS.

^ yeah I am super concerned about the validation exams! I am a college reapplicant, and I want to validate as much as possible, but I am concerned that I won't be able to pass the tests under the stress of plebe summer. Can anyone comment on the difficulty of the exams/ how frequently plebes validate classes?

....I hope someone has suggested changing usernames to you. You'll catch hell for that if you attend an academy.

I am technically a fourth class midshipman in ROTC, but the sentiment remains. I'll look into changing it. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

DS was a college reapplicant as well, and was able to validate several classes. I think you will be fine. Best of luck to you, GO NAVY!

Does anyone know of some things which successful Mids have done to prepare for the validation tests? I am mostly interested in the math, physics, and foreign language tests. Thanks in advance!

Beat Army!

Yeah take a deep breathe before you start and if you take them during Plebe Summer don't fall asleep. Seriously, not much prep to be done besides taking them. Relax, enjoy these last few months.
