JROTC Instructor nomination for USMA

I was told by an instructor at my school that if you are in a JROTC honor unit with distinction, then that instructor is able to nominate you into an academy. Although I am not in JROTC right now, If I were to join next semester could my Instructor nominate me for USMA?

DS received nominations from his JROTC instructor as his unit was in a distinguished status. These showed on his portals to the SAs, but there are only a very few spots open at each academy for this type of nomination. MOC opens up a much larger pool, although I would not recommend overlooking any options.

My DS received one of these nominations but was appointed through a congressional nom. It never hurts to have as many nominations as possible though.

He is able to. Would he? If your a rising senior then there is not much time to demonstrate what the instructor would need to see to earn you a nomination. However it never hurts to talk to the JROTC instructor to get their input. You could also determine what you would need to demonstrate to earn a nomination. If you're a rising junior then it makes more sense. Just my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it.

JROTC is an excellent program and since your school's program is an honor unit with distinction, you can count on it being good. You will get leadership experience in that program if you join that you will be able to use in your life whether you get a nomination out of it or not. Having just gone through this with my daughter, I understand your desire to have as many paths to nomination as possible. But, keep in mind that there are few JROTC/ROTC nomination slots and your chance of getting appointed on one is relatively low. Before you join, think about what you would not be able to do if you do join. Would you be cutting yourself off from a leadership position in another program? Are there other paths to show your leadership potential?

One benefit to joining is that you will have some access to an Army officer. They can help you better understand what that means and what it takes to succeed. That may be really useful.

If you are simply joining to get a NOM, it is likely your JROTC will recognize this. Your prior posts make it sound like you are already a senior in h.s.
