LEAD Program C/O 2023 Thread

How long does it take for the portal to update after your commander told you of the appointment? I have a brand new commander and he has been on TDY since he got here and will return April 1. I'm hoping I got accepted but since my commander is new and has been gone I haven't found out yet :biglaugh:, I have been hoping for a portal notification (anything to keep me optimistic at this point).

Took mine nearly two weeks to update on the portal

Also - does anyone know how to switch over TriCare? The directions in the doc are a little vague for prior enlisted. I tried calling them directly, and was told they need my actual address at USAFA...sound about right? But then on the form on the portal it says to select "MICARE IN PROCESSING PROVIDER, CADET" and use the academy's zip....??
Sorry for the million Qs!

How do you message people?

For Tricare I just enrolled on the website provided with that selection/zip. I don’t think anything else is needed

weren't you already enrolled tho since you're enlisted?

and to PM someone, you click on their name and hit "start conversation"

I wasn’t enrolled on the website they showed in document and had to create an account. I remember a different process for switching service when PCSing.

Hmm interesting...I'll probably just do the same, then, because I don't have an account setup there either....ugh gov systems are so confusing.
I just hope that doesn't mess up whatever tricare we have rn

Right before you leave for USAFA call your clinic at the base you are at and have them change your region to the USAFA one, if you change your tricare region now you wont be able to recieve healthcare at your current MTF. At least that is how it was explained to me.

Sweet! Thanks

Does any know when we get our actual orders? I assume it will be in late April or May sometime.

I think it is about a month out, but I have been trying to get ahold of the LEAD person at USAFA so I can figure out orders and TMO.

What I was told is that USAFA will send a list of names up to AFPC and from there, AFPC will cut orders and send them to your base MPF. I am hoping that this gets done soon but in previous years people (for the Prep School) have gotten orders late April to Early May. I would assume that they would send orders for directs as your BCT starts earlier. Also I heard that MPF is finally letting you have orders as soon as your checklist opens. A captain in my squadron is PCSing in June and already has orders but has completed none of the items on his checklist.

As for TMO, whenever we are blessed with orders we need to make sure it says that we are authorized to send stuff back to or home of Record. You also have to mention to them that this is USAFA and not OTS. Every office that I went to assumed that this was just like an OTS pcs but in some aspects it completely different. For instance, if your are OCONUS we are authorized to store stuff in a storage locker at your losing base. This if fine for OTS as your only there for 9-12 weeks but you will be gone for 4-5 years.

I will admit that it sucks being in the dark about some stuff but I knew an Airman that out-processed all within a week.

I am also trying to contact cadet personnel to see if there is anything that can be done early.

(sorry for the long post)

About how long does it usually take to find out if you got in or not from the time you submit the application? I submitted my application two days before the deadline because I waited on an LOE for a month, which was the only thing that I was waiting on. Thank you!

Some people found out a month later, some waited three-five months. I submitted mine Jan 4 and still waiting. I guess it depends on how competitive you are? A lot of people of this thread already found out they are going direct entry and I think majority of them submitted it mid Nov-Jan time frame. Rumor is that April is when they send out majority of prep school offers and March is mostly direct entry offers.

I don’t believe it’s per majcom I believe it’s just out of the competitive members running in the airforce
