NASS

AHHHH! I was off from school today and deceided to call admissions to check my NASS application using my mom's cell phone. I reached a receptionist and just as she was about to tell me, I LOST THE CALL!!! I was so upset(and still am). When the cell's service was back it was 16:02 hrs. A.K.A. 4:02pm, TWO minutes after office hours. I can only hope that I'll be permitted to use a phone at school tomorrow. Due to extracurriculars, I won't be home until late. If this didn't make my anxiety worse I'm not sure what will. Oh, yeah, I obviously didn't get my letter.
Hmmn... Question, why didn't they send out e-mails? Seems to me it would have been quicker. Personally I've had trouble getting money together for it and finding out on short notice makes it all the more difficult.

I talked to admissions today and they said that if we hadn't received our letters by today, that they may be able to send out an email with our acceptances however, other factors may not permit this. MickeyMoose I know what you mean, coming from CA, though there are a lot of ways to get out of here, with the decline in airline transportation because of unsatisfactory planes, etc. it is getting harder and harder to find flights that are open (I keep checking flights everyday to make sure I will even be able to get there)
Good luck to everyone and hopefully we hear tomorrow (either by email or phone)!
Respectfully,
Kathleen

Edit: just to let you know, I called admissions a couple of days ago and they told me over the phone that I was accepted however, they said not to arrange flights until the letter comes in.

I'm sorry to hear everything's been such a hassle for everyone.

does anyone know what exactly the issue was? did the admissions people explain?

good luck to mickey moose and whoever doesn't know yet.

Hi I am new here and i was accepted to NASS. just a quick question to make sure, does the CFA administered during the summer seminar count towards your application?

USAFA17, yes the CFA at SS does count but you can always submit another CFA with your official academy application. USNA will take the the higher of the two. So, whatever you do kick but this summer and make a great impression on your cadre!

Thank you for the support guys. I'm going to try again today. Good luck to all the other NASS and USNA hopefuls!

THEY CAME TODAY! Congratulations to all those who were accepted!

Kathleen

kmjg2000, I'll see you there! I also got NASS II; Congratulations!

I was wondering if everyone could weigh in on the positives and negatives of going to 2 summer seminars? I have been accepted to NASS, SLS, and the AFASS, however because of scheduling, I was looking at going to NASS and SLS (NASS is by far my first choice because I want to attend the US Naval Academy). However, I am having reservations about it, because 1) I don't want to take somone's spot at SLS who really wants to go WP and into the Army 2) I personally do not want to go to WP, however, I think that the opportunity to attend 2 summer seminars would be an amazing, once in a lifetime thing.
Any input on the subject (including those who have gone to multiple ones during the summer) would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Kathleen

If you have no intention of attending WP, why not give the spot to someone who wants to go? Seems like you already know what you want...so move forward and give up the slot.

Unless you plan on applying to WP and would consider attending, don't go. There are people on the waiting list who are dying to go and would love that spot.

My daughter went to 3 summer seminars, USNA, USAF, and Norwich. Each of them was a different experience, and in aggregate really shaped her drive to attend USNA.

My opinion is you should go to both. As a 17 year old you are trying to make huge decisions about your future. The more information you have the better decisions you can make for you. USNA & WP will give you new and different perspectives for each academy and the branches of service they represent. Your perceptions of what you think both academies are may be reinforced or altered depending on your actual experiences in really being there. Also, you will be exposed to two weeks of "military lifestyle". You either like the experience or realize this is not for me. The only way to find out is to be there and do the seminars.

Lastly, do not worry about taking someone else's slot. You earned the right to attend in a very competitive environment. Both academies made the offer to attend to you, because you are a better candidate. Accept that, make your choices on what is best for you. Best of luck!

GO!

I agree with MIDNDAD. You applied and were accepted to three. It is your $$$. West Point may impress you so much that you change your mind about which academy is best for you.

Welcome to the forum MissouriDad!

usnahopeful - Never close a door to opportunity especially a learning experience.

Congrats to all those accepted to the summer programs!

Thanks Jamzmom. Glad to behere and have picked up a lot of info already!!

I have still not heard anyhting from the Academy and I have sent them two emails, both which have not been answered. Does anyone have any suggestions? Obviously I probably did not get in but it would be nice to know for sure...

Don't give up! On newcadet.com a bunch of people are still hearing. Seems like if you call you might get the answer hang in there!
