I have my 20 oz Yeti handling the transport in the kitchen. I do NOT have 20 ozs in it. Just keeps my beverage close at hand at a good temp while I do a flank steak on the range grill tonight.

Now, is someone could deliver me a quality Dark & Stormy…
Are dark and stormy good?

I have been drinking whiskey and ginger ale lately. :)

I love them. I got to enjoying rum and ginger after a British boat came from the Bahamas into the bay where I grew up. I did some work on “Tide Chaser” and, when I was done, the crew invited me on board for some “rum and ginger”. They used rum as their ballast for the transit.
After that, when I was done for the day I would make a point of swinging my boat by “Tide Chaser” and, if any of the crew was about, they would invite me aboard for a drink.

Since there has been a merging of themes in this thread, courtesy of @USMCGrunt, I am ready, @deepdraft1. Fill mine above the Navy line, please.

@Small Team Bacsi posted that he needed a drink. Please fill his and all our age eligible SAF posters a shot to a level of their choosing. Keep my tab open. We'll square up later. After all, ‘Tis the season! Be merry all.
@WT Door No problem.. and we'll all have a 'long swig at the halyards' 😁 To our ships at sea! cheers!🥃

Okay, I'm a bit confused.

I've been to many an "interservice" party. And while I have seen that shot glass, in various service configurations, I've never understood it. Especially that sad line referencing the USAF.

I mean...when USAF pilots arrive at a party, we're very considerate. We bring our own mugs so that we don't dirty the hosts' glassware. And since we're equally adept at downing any adult beverage with the skill borne of combat aviators, we just need one mug.

And so we don't spend all night at the bar, keeping our brethren of the other service from refilling their glasses...

It's a one-quart mug.

I mean, isn't that befitting a USAF fighter pilot?
That is one fine looking mug and it is befitting of any fighter pilot. A certain conversation starter. The grip looks like the one on a helo stick too. Does the trim button work? I render my props to the Air Force pilots. Never saw one like it at the Kadena AB O'Club or at Osan AB. A very cool mug indeed.

Coming back to this thread at the airport after finishing my finals:

"...never saw one like it at the Kadena AB O'Club or at Osan AB."

Would you believe they were made/sold in Songtan, south of Osan?!
(Also in the mall area outside the base but that I don't think is "technically" part of Songtan, it had a different town name)

I wish the buttons worked but it's solid brass.

That sounds delicious, I'm going to make a pit stop by the store tomorrow to pick up ginger ale and vanilla ice cream. Oh dear, I hope this isn't going to be a new addiction of mine, if so I'm blaming you 🤣
Just as good as root beer floats imo. Grab some A&W root beer too in case you don’t like it.

Added bonus - low in calories and it provides needed nutrition!

When my stomach is a mess my go to is half seven up and half apple juice. My grandfather, USNA class of ‘39 told me it was a hangover cure for parades. Who knows? But it is a great remedy.
I haven't seen a 7-UP, the Uncola, in decades.

There used to be a drink called 7 and 7. I wonder if that's still a thing?

I was stationed at the NAS Cecil Field clinic in the middle nineties. Awesome place and people. We belonged to Naval Hospital Jacksonville and one Friday the CO came out for a captain's call. I remember it was a Friday because we were wearing summer whites. I remember that because of how the captain wore his wooley pulley on a warm Florida day in his white uniform. He wore his sweater because he was a huge man and over body fat standards.

What does that have to do with a thread about drinks you might wonder. Well, prior to his visit he signed off on the discharge of our lab tech. This HM2 was an excellent technician and a huge part of our health care team. Not just because he did accurate and timely lab tests but because of his knowledge and concern for our patients. He would walk over with immediate, in-person lab results on occasion. But alas, he was over weight. He had gland problems he told people. An overactive fork and knife gland. Anyway, in the mid-90s the USN was doing a purge of people an lots of good people got swept up and washed over the side.

Our lab tech didn't pose a public health threat but could have served the country just fine for 10 more years and retired as a first class petty officer. We are losing lots of good people at present die to refusing the vaccine order. I'm a big vaccine guy but believe this could have been handled better. There are battalion commanders being fired and I suppose discharged over their refusal to be vaccinated. A few days ago a Marine lieutenant colonel died of a heart attack. He was a marathoner. Probably had a carditis of some sort. A current serving Marine two star has lost use of one arm and it is attributed to receiving the vaccine. These stories haven't been in the news. I personally know the general. Deployed with him. I'm sure he's still a bad dude, even with just one arm.

We'll pull out of this crisis mode at some point and learn to live with this iteration of the coronavirus. Coronaviruses were discovered in the 1960s and include the common cold. They also include SARS and MERS and of course COVID-19. Unlike SARS and MERS, I believe CV-19 will become endemic and we will have the opportunity to choose to receive the vaccine or not like we do with the annual flu vaccine. We ain't there yet however and must navigate information available and make the choices we deem good for our family and ouselves.

I can't recall in the 157 posts thus far whether this was addressed or not, but I checked with DS and the military does require the flu shot also. Wanted to clear that up in case anyone was wondering.
And many others. It’s as simple as this: If you join the military, you give up the right to choose what vaccines you must receive. If you can’t accept that, the military is not right for you.

Yes. I was thinking of society as a whole about the choice in getting the flu shot. I’ve chased down many a Sailor and Marine to give them the flu shot.
