We were told to bring $200 for hygiene gear. From what I understood, what we fly with is for the night of the first. We fly in a day early.

I'm a National Marine Option Scholarship winner and I'll be attending Tuskegee University in the Fall. I'm still waiting 2 hear back on what Date I'll be heading to NSI. I expect since it's a little late in the Game for Cycle 1 that I wouldn't be attending that one, but who knows. Anyone in the same boat as me???

I am attending the NSI this year under the Navy option, from July 1 to July 22 (Cycle 1). It would be amazing to attend knowing some other people in the same boat as me. Also, did anyone receive a full packing list for this year’s NSI?

    ******

I had to look up “kvetching”. Great word!

Thanks for your note. Gosh ..... 1 week countdown and our daughter hasn’t gotten anything from her unit though has tried to obtain by email and by phone on a number of attempts. She has been diligent in her effort. Yes, that is cool to see her initiating. Very cool. Most definitely.

Her unit is on board with her scholarship location transfer, we do know that. That piece has been confirmed both with FL and her school unit officers. All of her documents have been provided to them to include the required info in her packet, DODMERB and required separate sports physical. All i’s are dotted and t’s crossed. She also reached out in follow up to confirm all was rec’d but has not gotten a reply. She is hopeful that the information she is looking for is provided this week at least in basic form. She has not been advised on the $200 piece it sounds like some of the others incoming have been told or any items to bring beyond the wallet and phone. She is very pliable but also a solid type A planner.

My brother is um .... “pretty high up” in the USMC world and he too is perplexed so little has been identified at this juncture for the new candidates headed to a new 3 week program he affectionately calls “summer camp”. Unfortunately, as they look to the upper classmen, they are also not in a position to offer mentorship, guidance or support with this program only tested last summer under similar, though significantly abridged, and different structure than will be the case this year.

Cheers here for hoping that all the mystery unfolds this week. We except it will. It is good to know that this is not a one off concern and that it would appear all the candidates are on the same boat. Plan for what you know and prepare for that which you don’t, eh.

Thanks again! You are all just a terrific group of people. The guidance and vast knowledge overal is wonderful!

My daughter just told me Indoc is cancelled - no funding. Did anyone else hear that?

Do you know where she heard it from? I haven't heard anything from my unit coordinator.

Could it be just a female thing at OSU - are there boys that were told the funding fell through?

There is absolutely no way they would cancel something for the women and not the men. Talk about legal issues....
Also since it's a Navy thing it can't be issues with funding at the unit level (who get their money from the Navy for this stuff if they are responsible for it).

I just got indirect confirmation that my son's NSI (2nd session) is still a go. He is at Univ of Washington.

It looks like maybe it's just an OSU thing? Half the unit is going and half the unit is staying put. So curious about how this all went down.

Was your DD slated for 1st or 2nd increment?

Oh my. Well gee! This is complicated. To cancel all together would be one thing but to have 1/2 and unit and not the other 1/2 is certainly curious. Our DD is to leave Monday as well and has not heard anything to date other than her original notification/ welcome packet issue by email some time ago. There has been zero communication on going or not going. No details otherwise. No travel correspondence. She has been diligently working to obtain information by email and phone without response from her future unit. I am sure the dust will settle soon and it will all shake out.

The lack of information may well be a result of administrative complexities as the Navy works to navigate this new, and what may be, challenging course. In the meantime ..... hmmmmm ....... we are over here scratching our heads a bit working to remain patient.

On a cool helpful note: This went out to some of the kids to share June 24 from CU, I think. This alone is largely what I think a lot of the kids are looking for in basic terms ..... well aside from whether they are going to NSI or not at all, I guess. They are also to bring a complete hard copy of all the documents from the indoc email packet they submitted electronically and by snail mail to their units in addition to a sports physical.

    **********************
    Received this 24 June—

    Candidate Midshipman,

This just came out form NSTC:
    --------------
    HRAs/CCs,

A lot of units/parents have been asking about packing for NSI and this is the guidance I have gotten from the NSI staff. Please push this out to the candidates.

All they will need is a small bag with one day worth of clothes and toiletries. Make sure they bring any glasses, medications, etc. that they will need during training. They will turn in this bag when they get their uniform/gear issue and get it back after graduation. Everything else they will need for training will be issued to them. If they have contacts, they will be required to remove them for certain evolutions, and thus, it is highly desired for them to bring a set of glasses that they can wear all day.

    V/r,

I've been asking for clarification on the NSI process from my Unit(Tuskegee University) for awhile now. Still haven't got my NSI date, Travel info, etc. This is the last thing I've gotten back. Screenshot_20190626-101313_Gmail.jpg Screenshot_20190626-101320_Gmail.jpg

My son is attending the first session also. He will be a freshman at UMaine. I have a question about the sports physical. He turned in his along with his immunization record. His physical was done on 8/18 so not within 90 days. I would think they would tell him he needed a new one if that one was outdated. I figured it was good as long as it wasn't over a year old. Anyone else have any info on this?

I think he better go get one. The 90 day rule sounds very strict.

We used the below form and got it done quickly. Our daughter was within the year but not 90 days. We had to pay out of pocket bc our insurance only covers one sports physical a year. I wouldn’t risk it and expect the office to have flagged per the designation on the info the kids got. They are allowed to bring it with them when they arrive along with a physical copy of everything they submitted to their unit coordinator.
