Plebes Dropping Already

I can confirm my kiddo said that he had taken a prt (run was around hospital point, it was over the 1.5 estimated to be 1.89 per task force) but he was pleased with his performance.
I do believe that USNA is doing all in their power to protect the mids and the summer training as much as they can. Idle hands are the devil's playground I was told, and I think idle minds are subject to stress and angst. I mean if I had sent him a box of books he might have filled his time better. But he is on Day 16 now, the first 5 were solo. The sailing instruction they were assigned took all of 30 minutes. The one hour outside is what they crave, I know Navy had to do this, and no, it shouldn't be that hard, but isolation is tough. Those in isolation have less to do, no roomie and no end in site. I am glad mine is mentally positive and has 2 roommates now, one a prior enlisted, one recruited athlete.

Saturday should be the beginning of what these kids had looked forward to since they sought the Academy as their path. They have all gone down the you tube rabbit hole since they started this journey years ago. They spent hours over the past years looking at I Day videos and Plebe Summer videos. They showed up knowing what they were missing and knowing they were facing uncertain times and an uncertain academic year. But they showed up anyway.
I do believe they and their detailers/task force mids and the admin at USNA can be shown a little grace and I, look forward to what they can accomplish over the next 4 weeks and 4 years on the Severn.

My God I'm old. I remeber both of those and the BK uniforms too!
Sadly, that is probably the last "good" Burger King commercial campaigns or at least one of the last. When I was in Business School approx 30 yrs
or so ago, the prof pointed to several Burger King campaigns as absolute disasters from a marketing standpoint and over the years, they have managed to blunder over and over again. I hadn't thought about it in a long time until teaching a Business Communications course a few years ago and I reviewed some of their more recent campaigns and saw more disasters.

DD just wants to get back to the yard. Carrying the equivalent of 15 units over a 6 week term, while trying to maintain the mindset of being in school when she is stuck at home has been difficult. Plus the 3-4 hours of physical training every day has added to the load. All the while not knowing if she will actually be able to rejoin her yearmates and teammates for her 3C year.

We have considered this atypical experience of having her home a blessing, but she needs to get back to Annapolis.

Bring the Youngsters back.
Some Youngsters are already coming back. I believe this/next week is when they are due back at Annapolis.

BK’s biggest single problem is that their fries are the worst in the fast food industry.

Need to do the responsible thing and yank this thread back to the initial topic of plebe summer. So here goes my segue:

DD started a ritual in middle school in which before every playoff game in her #1 sport, which always took place in March, she had to have a McDonalds Shamrock Shake. It was her good-luck talisman, a ritual that she carried with her into high school and even now, playing the same sport on USNA’s club team.

Why do I bring this up? Because Burger King doesn’t do Shamrock Shakes. And DD is a Plebe Summer detailer who’s also tired of ROM and ready to get this party started. And with that, the thread is back on track!

Brings to mind I-Day for ‘22. The sun is blazing and the light is glaring, with the heat and rays reflecting off the plebes’ unstarched whiteworks. It’s been a very long day and many of the plebes are dozing off during the Supe’s speech. He gets to the part about Admiral Farragut’s immortal words. Says the Supe: “And Farragut yelled, ‘Damn the torpedoes!’” Immediately and in unison, the few hundred detailers, all standing smartly around the block of plebes, yells in a full-throated roar: “Full speed ahead!”

That woke up the dozers. Others snapped a bit straighter in their seats. Parents took notice. You saw — and heard — a preview of the next few weeks. Gives me chills when I think about it even now.

That is a great one! Usually parents take notice when the Detailer’s take their oath and they say I Do. A few hundred of them is much louder than the Plebes I Do a few minutes later. It usually shocks a few folks.

The Detailers are definitley fires up and ready to go!

We were just out in T-Court in Black Flag weather (90 degrees, feels like 99 with humidity) practicing the ceremony to make sure it looks crisp for y’all watching the livestream ;). Taking a break for lunch then running through the whole thing again, gotta lead by example!

Appreciate the running color commentary. Stock up on pit putty for the coming days!
