Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

Just an hour away from the date of I-Day. I just want to express my gratitude again to all the forum members who have been so helpful in this whole process. It's been an immense pleasure to learn so much from so many experts.

DD was able to visit once more as a civilian to drop off equipment/stuff with a coach and meet up with teammates. She's feeling great right now. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. Thank you!

Thinking of you all!!

Core memories being created.

I can STILL feel today….both 5 and 3yrs ago!!

It’ll all be a blur, tomorrow.

Hugs to all. That last one, after the Oath, is made of special ‘hug’ sauce. Have someone take a picture. You will want to remember. It took me a while before I could look at my ‘hug’ picture. But very glad I have it.

And so it begins!!!

hope it went great this morning!!!!

Wow. What a day. Just got home about 30 minutes ago. We got a great view of her marching into T-Court. She looked totally shell-shocked. After the oath, we had thirty minutes with her. A bit of crying at the beginning, but by the end she cracked a couple jokes, straightened her belt and got back in formation. I believe she can do this. I just poured myself an Irish whiskey.

I think the bars around Annapolis do a lot of parental business. Glad you saw her let out some emotions, then gather herself and wade back in. Look forward to the joy of PPW and prepare to be amazed by the transformation. Hope you can go.

You’ve got this! I didn’t experience it in person but each year since, I watch the livestream. Still gets me. Everytime.

You raised her well and she has the fortitude to wade through the process to become a qualified applicant.

Then she hit the accept button.
Then she showed up.
7-9 hours later, she marched into T Court and with her shipmates, raised her hand.
And she said with a loud, resounding voice, “I DO!”.

And then, after seeing you guys, she felt safe and loved enough to be vulnerable. For a minute. She then adjusted her sails, set her course for Mother B, and put her eyes in the boat.

Well done mom and dad. Well done. Slainte!

Ah, Heatherg. I've been teary in private (I'm a guy) a bit and this post hit home. Thank you.
Well, now we are both teary eyed.

I would bet, that as a parent of a service member who volunteered, and a USNA dad, you will find those allergies sneaking up. At parades, football games, the presentation of colors and playing of bagpipes. Heck, the football team taking the field in Navy Marine Corps Stadium makes me cry.

Well done, dad. And welcome to our family. We are here whenever you or she need it. Your Mid really is my Mid. We take care of each other.

At the end of the football games too.

I think I saw the power point screen shots on one of the FB parent pages.

Allergies only seem to get worse the longer our kids are mids. Even during DD’s firstie year, the pollen smacked me hard during the singing of “Navy Blue & Gold” after the A-N Game, after her last club-team game, and after the distribution of diplomas.

One was in late fall, one was indoors during winter, one was springtime. It’s “all allergies, all the time” at USNA, apparently.

You are amongst good company, if I do say so myself.

Oh, dang! Just watched the USNA Instagram reel of I-Day and wouldn’t you know it, my allergies flared again. Happened when the reel showed photos of the interlude between swearing-in and march-in. The looks on those faces — both plebes and folks. Godspeed, 2027!

I am excited for parents of ‘27 - especially those parents who have not served in the military (like my wife and I). Your son/daughter is beginning an amazing adventure but so are you. Wear that Beat Army spirit gear proudly because YOU are going to earn it. Remember - all the stuff you’ve read about USNA and what awaits both you and your mid. Well, it’s all true. I envy you because you as parents have it all in front of you.
