So you just won an AROTC Scholarship- what now.

I read that @Montana State Army ROTC clarified there was no BFE last board, but will we get one this board? I am assuming so because a vaccinated person could have done them and I have yet to receive a letter. I only found out about the scholarship through the portal and the ROOs at my top schools. Correct me if I am wrong.

@VisionofConflux - If you are super ahead in terms of credits and can start ahead of the game, many universities offer 5 year "Bachelor to Masters" programs. (I am not sure how that would all play together with ROTC though.) Or as mentioned above look into double majors or additional minors.

There eventually was a BFE for last board. I forget when it came, it may have been after the 3/6 acceptance date. But still a nice keepsake. It was just the letter you already have, and a certificate.

I would do what the portal says— don’t wait on a BFE which may not maynot come.

The BFE is beautiful (my son received one following the second board) but agree that you should do what instructed to do in terms of accepting your scholarship on the portal and not waiting for the BFE.

@KingZunzie @CkzErz @Montana State Army ROTC Thank you! I looked at almost every document in the “information” link from the portal thinking that I had to sign something to accept the scholarship. I guess I just had to tell the ROO and if there is another step I will ask him. Thank you!

I was told to mark and sign the winner letter located in the "file upload" section to accept the scholarship and make your choice of which school.

You're welcome. Look at your letter. You need to "check the box" of where you are accepting the scholarship and sign the bottom before you upload it.

You’ve now received plenty of information from a couple of our resident experts on ROTC. Seems that the next best step is to contact Cadet Command directly and get resolution from the primary authority, rather than continuing to fish here for a explanation (none of which are to your satisfaction).

Remember that there are two parties to this agreement. There’s you, and you understandably don’t want to do more than is absolutely necessary to gain your bachelors degree. And then there’s the Army, which has a system for training officers-to-be that follows a certain timeline. Ultimately, the needs of the Army — whatever they may be — will take precedence. There may be a point of compromise that you find. But if not, why not make the most of the situation by grabbing more education at the Army’s expense? Seems like a sound win-win.
I went and contacted cadet command. I would hope they already know of my situation as I mentioned it multiple times while going through the process(resume, essay, etc.) Hopefully everything works out. Thank you for the advice of contacting cadet command.

@VisionofConflux Make sure you have completed the FAFSA with your parents - like today. If you need help completing it ask for someone at your HS or college of choice to assist. You need to have a back up plan (financial aid/grants or loans) to pay for your 1st year of college as generally you can't contract for a 3 yr AD scholarship until you have completed your MS1 year regardless of your academic standing as an incoming student. Call the financial aid office tomorrow at your school of choice. Tell them you are a '1st generation college student', that your parents did not go to college, and that you have a 3 year ROTC scholarship that won't pay until sophomore year - I read your post history. Schools like to help 1st in a family to get to college, and if your family income is low (EFC $0) you likely qualify for financial aid/grants.

I have already done the FAFSA stuff. However, I’ll still contact my choice school for further information.

Does Army ROTC mail a BFE like the ones the Service Academies do? I was not aware of that.

No no no. Telling the ROO means nothing. YOU have to return a letter on the portal.

Hey guys, quick question. I know that I have 30 days to accept my AROTC scholarship, but what if I am not exactly sure which college I want to attend yet? Is there any consequence/downside to waiting closer to the 30 days to turn in my selection and acceptance of my scholarship? I'm waiting on some news about a program I'm interested in at one university, and my acceptance or lack of acceptance into the program could sway my college decision.

No downside. Just make sure you submit it prior to the 30 day deadline. In the event your acceptance comes later, you can request a transfer to that school. Good luck and congratulations on your scholarship.
