Still in the game

We know someone on our slate was appointed to USNA; he is waiting on USAFA;DS was just appointed to AFA; not that we aren't extremely thankful, but comically speaking, wonder if we could start an academy version of stubhub where you trade appointments and scholarships :shake:

Someone from our district (actually our neighborhood) has an LOA and received and accepted an appointment to USNA. My DS didn't think that "went against" him.....is that correct?

someone in our district is in the prep school.. got a nom from the congressman..does he take the slot? Or is it still open? OH THE QUESTIONS?!

I think a lot of it depends on how admissions decides to slate/apportion it. Technically the person with the highest WCS wins the slate. Theoretically the LOA doesn't always mean the highest WCS.

In our district, I believe there were somewhere between 2 and 5 LOAs / appointments that we know of. (2 for sure) One of those was my son's best friend since kindergarten. All those appointments have been given out since before early January.

It's all behind the scenes and the candidates really may never know how it works out. The WCS does play into the pool of qualified alternates/national pool.

I think admissions may be tuning things to a point now. It's tense.

Maybe, maybe not. The answer is complicated -- depends on to whom the LOA recipient is slotted, who ends up in the National Pool, etc.

I received an appointment to NA in December. I realize how incredibly fortunate I am, but the reality is the NA is my plan B. I also received an NROTC scholarship. I am, like all of you, anxiously waiting to hear if I got into my plan A school so I can make be comfortable with my decision. I know I won't hear anything until the end of the month though.

I guess the reason I am posting is to tell you all there likely are others in exactly the same situation as I am-haven't accepted an appointment yet because we want to have all our cards on the table before we do. These decisions may directly impact your own circumstances. Like all of you, I too have every desire to serve and become a naval officer. I haven't ruled out the Academy. It's just that I owe it to myself, my family and my country to execute my due diligence in this process. Trust me when I tell you I feel your pain. My fingers are crossed for all of us.

Just please decline the appointment as soon as you will hear good news from Plan A!

It's still open. Prep School doesn't require a nomination, whether he got one or not.

JoeDoe,

Thanks for your input! I am sure you are correct and there are others in the same boat, as well as those that have received appointments to several academies. We just need to be patient...deep breaths! (If only it was that easy! :thumb:)

I would urge JoeDoe to take his time in making a decision. There is no rush if you want to think things through. You have earned the appointment and the time to make sure you are 100% sure on your decision. Sometimes making a decision on 2 real options in front of you is different than thinking about 2 options that you are wishing for.

Best of luck to all!

Still waiting in PA. No mail and based on other comments, good news will only come by phone call. So now, I'm just waiting for the phone to ring.

I don't think all MOCS call- do they?

Not all MOCs make the call. I asked mine for any info he had and he said that he will call and congratulate me IF I get an appointment, so now I am only afraid of what will be in the mailbox :frown: but the only way to know for sure if yours will call is to ask them.

Seems like it varies a lot. Our MOC did not call - BFE showed up out of the blue. I was a little surprised that my DS did not hear from the MOC in any way. Why wouldn't they welcome that opportunity to be the good guy?

In some cases, such as election years, they've left office. Or they're on vacation. Or . . .

No mail in MA today. DS very frustrated. Is it still good we have not heard anything as of yet? I am not even sure they have done out district. There does not seem to be many MA people on the forum - only one I know of.

Oh sure, I understand that. It's just this guy is a freshman congressman. I would have thought he would want to do that. But whatever, doesn't change the outcome, right?

I respect both your candor and the seriousness with which you are approaching this decision. Best of luck to you on whichever path you find yourself.

DS got a personal call from our Congressman, but no call from the Senator. So no, not all call.
