The Waiting Club

Truth here...

I have seen a candidate receive the "you're amazing, awesome, just perfect....BUT..." letter.

And a couple weeks later they were offered an appointment.

Yes, they took it and graduated several years ago!

Last year I got denied. I worked with my ALO and she was able to "pull some strings" to get in contact with a lady she knew on the admissions board. With my application open, she essentially told my ALO that same message: "He seems to be a very competitive candidate, but sometimes we just have to let good people go. We strongly advise him to apply again next year!" Although I did not get a BFE after a TWE, I have heard that same message.

This year as a college re-applicant I am hoping that all of the talk is true that college re-apps are being evaluated now as the later slate in the game, and that I will hear back soon. Waiting this year I feel is more agonizing than last year. After looking at the USAFA self-reported data this year, I am not seeing many re-applicant acceptances ( I know it is only about 10% self-reported, but still). I'm just telling myself that that means I have a good chance of getting in because I haven't seen other Re-apps posting.

My DS was a reapplicant- they say your chances go up lots with subsequent applications- shows you know the process and you have the grit to keep trying!

I will cross my fingers and toes for you!

Pulling for ya kid ! My DS is in same boat , college reapplicant , self prep . Hasn’t heard a word and no one has posted any appointments from our state . What’s your plan B if you don’t mind me asking ?

Just like flieger83 said,

Last year DD received the "you're amazing, awesome, just perfect....BUT..." letter from USMA first week in April, then April 20th a call to her high school from the member of Congress that she got an offer of appointment. But she had an offer of appointment much earlier from USNA that she had already accepted and she declined the offer from USMA May 1st. No TWE, chances of getting in are great. If 3Q and TWE is received,
is not over yet. DS is waiting on USNA and USAFA and he is positive and hoping for the best. He is in college with a 3 1/2 AFROTC scholarship, already selected for SFT this summer. Good luck to everyone still waiting!:thumb:

Well right now it is just continuing on the path I am now- pursuing a mechanical engineering degree at a local University while going through AFROTC and commissioning that way. After I do my active duty I am strongly considering going into the Air Force Reserve units and flying with them.

Thank you for your encouragement. It’s not easy to stay positive while you wait wait wait! But it is very helpful to hear stories from people like you. Keep the faith everyone, you’re all going to succeed whether it be SA or Plan B, just a different path at the end of a long day.

Why not attempt to get selected for SUPT while on active duty? I have some experience with AFRC flying units...they like to hire new college graduates (or in-unit members) to send to SUPT so they come back as LT copilots or wingmen. If you're a captain with XX years of active service, then they have to decide to take you over a "newbie" and then send you to SUPT, RTU, and back for mission ready training. Figure on 2-3 years of training. So...if you're a 6 year captain and just left active duty for AFRC...now you're a 9 year captain filling a newbie slot. You're up for major in two years...see a possible problem there?

I'm not saying that's what WILL happen, I'm saying I've seen that happen. I've also seen captains hired and sent to SUPT. So it can be done, but if AFRC is your goal, then you need to be cultivating that garden EARLY!

Active duty is TRULY critically short pilots...might work there.

same for DS, his stats are good but no nomination, still showing Candidate status. At this point if no nomination, is it just TWE that could happen? He only applied to Congressional nomination and did not get it.

I am in the same boat with decent stats and no nomination. My Congresswoman would not let me switch my Academy of choice for my nomination interview. Hopefully, there is still a chance that USAFA prep may offer us a spot. No TWE yet, so don’t give up!

Does anyone know if USAFA send TWEs in waves or do they send them right away. I'm also "waiting" along with the rest of you but I have a medical disqualification with no waiver initiated.

Have they actually wait-listed you guys or are you not hearing anything yet?

USAFA doesn't actually do a waitlist. We just haven't heard anything back yet.

Regarding the waitlist issue, last year, coaching staff did use the term wait list in emails to us and our recruit. Just our experience, perhaps not official, but it came via email from a coach, so we thought it was official.

Is it just me, or is it odd that there has not been any more big waves of appts?

Also curious if anyone knows if we should be moving forward somehow to get a medical waiver on our own so that if my DS has to move forward with plan B, he will be able to be part of the AFROTC program at his university. I am assuming he will need the medical waiver regardless. We have not thrown in the towel yet on his plan A, just trying to get our ducks in a row for his plan B.

So happy I just found this site last night for support. My DS is still waiting as well. His hold up is the medical waiver. We sent in everything they asked for a month ago and it's still in pending status. We had given up hope since March has now come and gone. Now I am reading there are still chances even all the way up to June. And even those that initially received a rejection letter gets an offer later. So still keeping hopeful thoughts. This whole process has been a huge test of patience.

Yup same boat.....some people on here mentioned there would be at least one more wave of appts and I have not seen any. I also do not see some districts represented in the thread of appointees...ours being one of them. Not sure what to make of it.

Regardless, looking for insight how to move forward to get a medical waiver for him since he is fine from his injury and his orthopedic doctor wrote a statement.

Don't read into some districts not being on these forums. Honestly, only about 10% of candidates belong to this site. Sorry, but the candidate on your MoC's slate could have been already appointed, but bc they do not belong here you would not know.
Plus, most MoC's do not publish their appointees until May/June when all of the dust is settled.
~ IE MoC Jones places on their website 8 candidates on their slate that were appointed. However, only 1 is charged, the others that were on their slate could have Sens., Presidential, or taken off the pool list. Yet 8 are going.

The medical waiver, especially at this time of the yr is a little slower. It has to go up and down the chains of AF. They have many to review and the last I knew it was not a daily review, just like USAFA boards. First in First out. Take hope that because they requested a waiver for him he is competitive.

Good luck.
