USAFA Cadet Death

I only appreciate whistleblowers when they have already exhausted every other option to correct a situation, first.

Maybe I missed it in the media’s reports. Did the cadets raise the food issue with their AOC’s first (Or whatever they are called now)?

Was it worked up the chain of command?

Were other avenues used to correct the situation?

The reason I ask is because at this point or from where I am sitting, it appears that some petulant “kids” were mad that the Superintendent was cracking down on standards and restricting them to the cadet area. So their knee jerk reaction was “to drop a dime” to the Gazette Telegraph as a way to get back at the Superintendent.

I could be wrong though.

In fact, I hope I am wrong.

I’ll have a better handle on things in just about 10 days.

EDIT: As of right now, I am of the opinion that a three star Superintendent’s job does NOT include having to know the Mitchell Hall inventory. Nor should he have to check in with Mitchell Hall staff…”I’m thinking about putting the cadet wing on restriction for two weeks. Do ya’ll got enough food?”

I will politely disagree with you on this one. I never suggested that it was the task of the Supe to check in with Mitchell Hall staff. However, it is entirely his responsibility and fault if they don't have enough food for the cadets. I will reiterate that this is pathetic, and I think highly indicative of many of the simple oversights that I see reflected in current, military leadership. (Afghanistan withdrawal debacle?)

Not enough food for the cadets - and entirely predictable?
Blame it on the cadets for not improvising? No way. I will not victim blame.
I blame it on the Supe. It's his job - not theirs. I'm not going to carry water for his failure.

If you can't provide food logistics, then what else can't you do?

Maybe the AF should make the position of Supe a promotable assignment instead of a retirement assignment. Than mistakes could have consequences.

The OP wrote "USAFA Cadet death."

Please take your tangents somewhere else as previously requested, and give the topic the respect it deserves.
How about you cut out the constant, condescending admonishments on what people should and should not discuss? They are at least as distracting as serious men discussing serious issues.

That's a trait that's not going to serve you well.

To get this back on track, I cannot fathom the grief and shock that Avery's family and friends must be experiencing. She was in the prime health of her life, having been medically screened to even receive an appointment.

I hope her family gets the respect of an unbiased investigation. Based on the outcome of those investigations, I hope efforts are made to put more options in place for anyone attending academies to have better care.

Seeing her on parent weekend, and then getting that knock on the door just days later? Unfathomable. It's so heartbreaking.

Agree. Stormbird is not bringing any value to the thread.

You can not throw that out there! I'm holding back lots of details out of respect for my cadet, teammates and friends. It was PURE leaderships’ responsibility -1000%, It will all come out soon.
@pv123 could you pls DM me? I have a question for you.

What is the status of the investigation into this sad event? Or are we seeing a silent attempt to run out the clock?

From a former commander's view...

This is not a "Hello world, today we're at XX in the investigation of YYYY." No, we don't do that; nobody should. Sit back and allow the investigation to run its course. I've been involved, in a small way, with official investigations. They're slow, methodical, fully documented, and rigorous.

I wouldn't expect any word for quite some time.
