I understand this subject involves DoDMERB, but my question is more pertaining to the USMMA.

I am a current applicant to the academy, and I have been medically disqualified by DoDMERB for a condition I never had. DoDMERB has recently informed me that they are finally reconsidering their decision, and Mr. Muller cc'd several people from USNA, USAFA, and USMMA admissions to the email.

The director of admissions to the USMMA sent me an email this morning saying they have already begun the waiver process for me, and that I have a very solid file. This was surprising to me, because USNA said they only do that after they give an appointment, and Air Force told me that they only start it if they plan to give an appointment. Is Merchant similar to Air Force and Navy in that respect, or do they start the waiver process for every applicant that needs one?

Am I reading too much into this? Probably... The waiting thing is getting to me... but I better get used to it

I would be cautiously optimistic if I were you. Both my DS (2013) and DD (2021) went through the waiver process for USMMA and received appointments. They were told that the waiver was requested only because they were competitive. If you were not competitive, USMMA would not have started the waiver process. Good luck.

I think USMMA automatically does a waiver review for every candidate when the DoDMERB report comes out. But the admissions director sent you an email saying that, "You have a very solid file." Logically, that's a comparative statement made in relation to other candidates. I'm sure they have decades of admissions data, so probably comparative to previous classes as well. That means that you have a good chance of being appointed so long as USMMA medical approves your waiver. If your waiver is not granted, then nothing else matters, you will be disqualified.
