USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Any idea why my application would still be Incomplete despite having 3Q (I think that's the term?) done over a month ago, everything on the checklist has been sent in at least before Oct 7, and nothing but the Nomination left? I know that technically you can get an LOA with an Incomplete status, but when I emailed my local coordinator, she said the status will change once the "Examiner" reviews your application and is sent up for review. Now I know everyone espouses the "waiting game", but there are two reasons I'm worried.

1. A few weeks back I received an email saying, "Your CFA has been failed", and then a quick follow up email saying "oops, never mind you just didn't have your CFA in". Then, 2., a week ago my local admission counselor sent an email saying "Hi, your application hasn't started yet. Please start or lmk if you have decided not to apply", and once again corrected 10 minutes later.

Both of these issues, in addition to having my status as "Incomplete" for close to a month now while all my friends have become CPR, have led me to believe my application has some tech issues in the portal. Just wanted some advice on whether these instances are just coincidences or indicative of some larger problem. I mean I have EA applications for NROTC to MIT, but for USNA not even an LOA, but just any indication that my application has been received would be nice 😭

USNA does not issue a 3Q notification, unless your counselor told you. Also, even if your app is reviewed it then goes to the Noms & Appts for slating. This can happen from now until April. Keep working with your counselor to get to CPR, hope to hear sooner but prepare for April.

To add to NavyHoops’ excellent advice, fully qualified/3Q/triple qualified, is: medical/DoDMERB Q or waiver; athletic/CFA; academic/scholastic - all the other evaluated stuff. As noted above USNA doesn’t tell you if you are fully qualified. Fully qualified plus a nom makes the candidate eligible to be offered an appointment.

Don’t spend any time thinking about an LOA. Most midshipmen and cadets at SAs never got them.

Pop up on the live chat with Admissions, which usually happens around midday ET to ask questions about status of various items. Not the chat function in the portal but the 💬 on the Admissions web page. Have your candidate number handy.

There are many intersecting and parallel processes within Admissions. There will be a status update eventually. There are thousands of applicants and bits of data churning around in Admissions, with more info flooding in all the time. There are not thousands of staff.

Focus on what you can control. Tend alternate plans. Go PT to bleed off stress.

Hmm ok, I was just worried about the CPR, not the LOA. I didn't know about the Chat feature on the Admissions Page, I'll pop in tomorrow and see if it's up. Thanks!

Yep sorry, I thought 3Q meant medical + optometrist + CFA, I've finished athletics and DoDMERB and I guess the academic/scholastic is the step that hasn't come up yet. I'll try to talk to the admissions folk on the live chat feature, and I obviously understand that these things don't happen instantaneously - it's just that some of those instances made me fearful that there were some portal issues and that they weren't seeing my application properly, given that they had told me twice I had something missing/hadn't even started the application before correcting it later.

Congratulations to your son! I know that feeling well!

I'm also so grateful to have someone join me on the appointment list. I was starting to get self-conscious lol. I hope a lot more here join us soon.
Thank you, and a huge congratulations to you! (I actually deleted my post that you replied to here bc I realized I posted it in the wrong place. 😬 Sorry everyone.

We know what you are feeling. DD had interview with Congressman last Tues night and has another interview tomorrow with one of our Senators.

I have to say...I'm not sure attending the CVW this weekend helped. Now I love USNA just as much as my DS!! He checks all the boxes, but that Nom! So tricky in the competitive states. No lie...this wait it going to be tough for both if us.:D
In relation to this weekend’s CVW, can we drive to Alumni Hall in the morning to pick them up?

... for a military family with valid military IDs, you can drive in and out. What's the instructions on your CVW packet?

Do candidates and BGOs find out about appointments at the same time? AKA-> Does the BGO portal update before the candidates, or is it the same. Thanks!

The BGO portal may update but we are instructed to let the MOC and or academy make the announcement.
