USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Does this mean that out of the people on my district's slate, I got the spot (there was only one spot at the academy this year), or can someone on my slate take my spot before I hear back about the medical waiver?
Your slate is probably not settled yet so do not assume that you've got it and they don't.
What the LOA can be and often is is a recognition by USNA that they want YOU and are going to offer you admission one way or another. If the slate goes to someone else then they'll bring you in as an "Additional Appointee" (what USMA calls the National Wait List) or other slot. This means that you do not need to worry about your slate, they will slot you in somewhere provided you meet requirements.

I received an LOA this morning stating probably the same thing as all LOAS: "You have been selected for the class of 2028, as long as blah blah blah." I still need a medical waiver. Still waiting to hear back. Should I just sit tight? BGO told me I have the spot, so I can relax and focus on getting a waiver.

Does this mean that out of the people on my district's slate, I got the spot (there was only one spot at the academy this year), or can someone on my slate take my spot before I hear back about the medical waiver?

Also, I wanted advice on what to do about a situation. Two of the people on my slate are classmates of mine, and, to be honest, have been quite rude to me throughout this process and kind of laughing at me for applying and just all sorts of passive agressive comments. I have chosen to just be nice and brush it off and hope one day, an appointment will do the talking. My friends think I owe it to them to tell them that I got in, so that they can start planning for their backup options. I do not want to do this because I do not have an appointment yet. Also, it would definitely come off as braggy and douchey. There has to be a way for them to know that they should start planning for backups without me having to tell them face-to-face where it looks like I am bragging. I want to 100% be taking the high road in all of this and do not want to come off as condescending at all.

Needless to say, my interview with the BGO ended up going very well, and he told me he wrote me a stellar report and vouched to the Regional Commander about me for a waiver and probably put in a good word for me.

This is mostly just a place to vent the situation, but to anyone out there who is experiencing a similar situation, you can never be sure who is going to get an appointment. I had a 1430 SAT, which is probably low for my slate, but I was also an Ironman triathlete and worked my ass off on every other aspect of the application. If anyone ever tries to make snide remarks and belittle you, just know they will get what is coming to them. Somehow, the Navy knew she wasn't made for the academy. If you are experiencing the same situation, have faith that things will work out and remain calm and polite NO MATTER WHAT THE PERSON SAYS. They will always look silly in the end. You reap what you sew. If that person ends up getting an appointment over you, know that they will get what is coming to them and have pride that you stayed true to yourself. Reapply the following year, and the Navy will not make the same mistake.
Just a bit of unasked-for career advice from a crochety old vet ... be careful to whom you vent, and what info and in what context you share it. Stuff like that is often fodder for a surprise backfire!!

Side note: I remember asking one of them what academies they applied to, and she said, "Just Navy." I said, "Yeah, Navy is probably my number one right now, but I applied to West Point and Air Force because I would have no problem going to any of the three. They are pretty great, Coast Guard too." She said, "Army is weird, and Air Force is barely an academy." I have two USAFA grad brothers, so this was slightly offensive, but I ignored it. She then went on to say, "Yeah, it is probably good you applied to other academies because my uncle went to USNA, and I know the BGO." All I said was, "Oh nice, I just turned in my apps and am just hoping for the best; good luck."

Needless to say, my interview with the BGO that she "knew" ended up going very well, and he told me he wrote me a stellar report and vouched to the Regional Commander about me for a waiver and probably put in a good word for me.

Double tap what other people have said, you getting in has no real impact on them getting in. The academy can make lots of things happen if they want someone. You'll find competitive people like that even at the academy, just do your own thing it really doesn't matter. Maybe she'll get in too, who knows. Just be polite as you said and continue on your way. Good job getting an LOA

All that are offered an appointment. There have been people here that have received their BFE before they accepted the offer. And others who got the BFE and still went to other SAs.

There is usually one or two a year that get offers from all SAs, take pictures with their BFEs from all of them together, and act a little braggadocios online.

And then others who get into all, and are humble and never say anything. They probably have a bit of an easier time during the Plebe/Doolie/Cadet summer. ;)

Are the Laws of the Navy still plebe knowledge? This stanza is good lifelong advice:

Take heed what ye say of your seniors,
Be your words spoken softly or plain,
Lest a bird of the air tell the matter,
And so ye shall hear it again.
yep had to learn all of em in plebe summer

I will never forget my dad asking us to carry a tiny notebook in our pockets for chores and such.
I hated it.
Still resistant to lists to this day.
Wasn’t until our son became a Midshipman that I understood the process. And why my dad was following that procedure.
As a civilian, still a hard pass. I honestly think I have child trauma from those damn lists and on demand mini notepads.

Is Office of Admissions dragging their feet this year? Last year on January 20th there were almost 60 posts on the Offers of Appointment thread.
This year is only 34 so far.

No. This is what’s wrong with over analyzing.

We get 10% of the appointees here in any given year. We don’t know at any given point how many offers are out there in any year. We just know who came here and told us.

Exactly!

Exactly. Even this is a rough estimate…this could fluctuate year to year.

Is Office of Admissions dragging their feet this year?

That’s a pretty bold statement. April 15 is the promised date…we are still about 3 months away from then. Nominations aren’t even due until the end of this month. Time is better spent worrying or investing in other (distracting) things than whether admissions is doing their job or not.

lol if admissions is ‘dragging their feet this year’, they do it every year, bc every year, they are accused of ‘dragging their feet’.

Shout out to them…working long hours. Overtime, I suspect. Heading into the grind of sorting and settling thousands of candidate files. And most of them have families/lives outside of this.

Personally, I’m glad they take the time to work through this with thought and care.

And? As already stated, USNA Published ‘know by’ date is April 15. It’s not a ‘first in, first out’ process. Expect to hear around April 15.
