Waiting Game

All,

Many Falcon Foundations offers hit portals this morning. There will be more however, but probably not many until after April 15 (the date the current offers will expire if not accepted). The FF has a limited number of slots and must wait to see how many remain after the first batch of offers are accepted, rejected, or expire. Historically only about 50% of FF offers are accepted. The 50% who don't accept often have direct appointments to USMA and/or USNA, so definitely do not give up hope on FF offers (it is not uncommon for USAFA Admissions to make additional FF offers as late as mid-June).

As far as direct appointments are concerned, a lot of candidates will get notified by their congressman and/or senators over the next week. USAFA intentionally delays posting appointments on the portals to allow time for the congressmen and senators to break the news to the appointees. Not all congressmen and senators take advantage of that, however. The majority of this years offers will post to the portals next week.

Let me stress that this is not the final list of offers (but it is most of them). There are still a number of unresolved vacancies that Admissions is working hard to complete (so don't give up hope if you don't get an appointment next week). USAFA Admissions generally sends non-select letters around the middle of April as we continue to complete processing and making offers until then.

this big wave aimed at next week, you say "direct appointments".. Does this include us college re-applicants? or are we out on a separate thing? Didn't know if you just wrote "Direct" to mean basically all actual appointments and not offers to FF/USAFAPS. Thanks!

If the big batch of appointments is supposedly coming out next week and I am still waiting for a waiver by then should I move to plan B?

Yes. At USAFA we refer to appointments directly into USAFA as "direct appointments". That includes all of the incoming class, including those already in college, at a prep school, or currently serving in the military.

Not true at all. Direct appointment is straight from HS. Then you have college reapplicant, then LEAD, and Falcon Scholars

Thanks to Insider for the great information in this thread. This may be the most helpful thread I’ve seen on these forums.

Can you say whether or not the MoC of appointees without a Congressional/Senatorial nomination will be contacted and provided the opportunity to notify the candidate despite not offering the nomination?

Hello all,
I just had a quick question that I figured SAF might have the answer to. I was nominated by a congressman that lost his primary and is no longer in office. I was just wondering if it would decrease my chances of getting a phone call or would the new person that took the seat be the one that I get the call from? If anyone has any insight on this, please let me know. The wait has been killing me, I can't wait to figure out even if I don't get an appointment. Good luck to all!

DS just received his “medically qualified” for USAFA from DoDMERB yesterday! Now we wait...

Waiting on AFROTC decision too that was delayed till 30 March.

anyone know when the decisions for those with a presidential “service connected” nom is done? He has a MOC nom too...so who knows which one they will go with if appointed.
These processes are all working

First, never count on a MOC, incumbent or not, to call. Some do, some don’t. It’s their option.

A communication from a USAFA source, human or technical, is going to be your official and trusted delivering agent of yes/no on appointment. At some point.

Focus on what you can control. PT to bleed off stress. Be in the present with family and friends. Tend alternate plans. Learn how to coach yourself through stress and not induce it in yourself. That is a life skill.

Yours is the generally understood meaning here on the forum, but it sounds like admissions uses the term in a different way.

Good information to know in either context.

Yep, "Direct from hs" vs. "Direct into USAFA."

The congressional offices have access to see if appointments have been offered (even if they themselves did not nominate the individual). Our experience is that some MoCs are very interested and involved. Others are not, and some don't care at all. While have no control over what they do or don't do we are required by law to allow them time to contact the appointees before the appointments show on the portal.

We are not so bound for USAFA PS and FF offers. That is why so many appeared this week.
