What to expect in Naval Academy Summer Seminar?

Really all you have to do is make sure you're in good shape for morning PEP every day and the mock Sea Trials at the end of your session. Other than that, be prepared for a lot of meetings, fun classes, and ask as many questions as you can while you're there.

Prior to my CVW and USNA Summer Seminar, USAFA was my actually first choice, but I had such a blast and asked a lot of questions while I was there that I began to look more into USNA and the Navy, and it won me over in the end.

Prep for the CFA. If you do well and pass, you don't have to do it again.

There are multiple threads about CFA-prepping. Search for them.

Enjoy yourself and keep an open mind. Best wishes to you.

My DD's squad ran from Bancroft over to the cemetery and back, I think she said like 2.5 or 3 miles... so be able to do that comfortably. You are also given the CFA at summer seminar for your application. They will tell you if you fail so then you'll need to take it again later and pass for your application to be complete. I asked my DD if she passed and she said "I think so, they didn't say anything to me". Ask one of the group BGO's but I imagine they (your BGO) would be able to tell you if you needed to retake it.

My DD absolutely LOVED summer seminar.

I would love to see a thread similar to the appointment thread for all the candidates that have been accepted to NASS so far - just to see the geography of where the acceptances have been given. Congrats to all and good luck.

Example:
UserId / Date Applied / Date Accepted / Session Attending / State - District

NavyDiver / 1-17 / 3-21 / Session 1 / Alaska -05

Wow, I thoroughly apologize for forgetting to mention the CFA! I can't believe I forgot about that! Yes, PLEASE prep for the CFA, because it counts towards your application!

1.) You will get an evaluation at the end of NASS, and it will be sent to the admissions board.
2.) At morning PT, make sure to sound off extra loud and don't cheat yourself. Your squad leader will notice you.
3.) Try to memorize the rates as the week goes on, so that at indoc your not getting screamed at and having your buddy next to you doing pushups.
4.) Don't become mesmerized by the mid store and stay in there too long like I did lol. Your squad will think you are lost and look for you.
5.) Try not to fall asleep during the classes, the PT and everything make you tired but the classes give you insight on the "student" side of usna.
6.) If King Hall serves grilled cheese before the CFA, don't throw up on the nice indoor track. Keep an eye out for the trash cans :D

If you take the CFA at NASS and pass does it count for the other Academies as well, or do they make you take it separately?
My DS passed the CFA last year at NASS, and it counted for his USMA application as well. WP just requested his results directly from his USNA Admissions counselor, and it appeared in his USMA portal a few days later.

That's the beauty of doing well and passing the CFA at NASS. USMA and USAFA will take those scores. USMA may request a special video of certain events, but otherwise, if you can knock it out at NASS, you save the hassle of doing it later.

Or the male NASSter who tried this one out on a USNA sponsor daughter NASS detailer:
"I lost my phone number. Can I borrow yours?"

Or the one who - bless his heart - drew a picture of himself as a future plebe saluting her.

Expect to have a ton of fun and meet some amazing people! Expect to learn new things and have your previous expectations blown out of the water. And IMHO, don't make it something it's not. What I mean by that is don't take it too seriously, just focus on having fun, doing your best, and seeing if the Academy is really for you. My squad leader really stressed that with us, for example, when other squads were out practicing drill or memorizing rates, we were talking about the Naval Academy and asking her questions or she was giving us a tour or introducing us to her friends, all which I am much more grateful for than if I had spent that extra time worrying about something that wouldn't matter in a few days. But NASS is such a great experience!! Feel free to PM with any other questions and have a ton of fun!!!

i will be at the first session as well!!! i can't wait, but i am very nervous about the CFA above all else. i have poor upper body strength as a female, so i struggle in pull ups. i can't quite do one, but i can do over 30 seconds on the flexed arm hang and i'm about average on push-ups. i am of course going to keep working out and running every day to get to where i want to be, but does anyone have any other tips to help me out? Thanks in advance.

DD said her core was very sore by the time she did the CFA. She managed to pass but felt she could have performed better if she'd been less sore. Work on your core before you go. I think she really enjoyed the competitions and making friends from all over.

I'll be at session 1 as well! I hope I'm ready for the CFA but work out at home. Take mock CFA and be prepared I head it's an amazing experience

Do your best to memorize rates: General Orders of a Sentry, How's the Cow, etc etc, but most importantly Navy Blue and Gold and USNA Mission Statement. It'll save you a lot of time and stress! Do your best and have fun! And for the love of god, do not get a concussion from spring sports the week before. It makes things slightly more fun...

Thanks! Good to know! Also, any clue on what girls should wear on the day they first arrive?
