When to schedule CFA

Hello!

I'm applying for the class of 2025. My due date for my application is due November 1st, so just under 2 months out.

I am extremely competitive academically, but the rest of my application is lacking somewhat. I am training religiously for the CFA, but my scores are not what I would like and I would like as much time as possible to train. Specifically, I need to work on my pull-ups and push ups.

Would it be cutting it too close to schedule my CFA for mid-late October? For example, would October 29th be a bad date to choose because it is so close to my deadline? What is the latest I could take the CFA and not be worried about royally messing up the entire process!

I appreciate any and all advice. Thank you very much!

Luckily, pull ups and push ups are super easy to improve. If you haven't already, I would go look at all of the threads on how to increase your pull ups and pushups and take the advice. As far as scheduling, October 29th would be bad. You should leave enough time to retake the test in case something goes wrong (bad breakfast, inclement weather, scheduling issues, etc.) Finding the balance between taking the CFA as soon as possible and being as prepared as possible is difficult but I'm sure you will find it. Good luck!

Does the USAFA wait to submit you to DODMERB until the CFA is done? I understand USMA takes these in serial fashion (won't start DODMERB until CFA and other things "in candidate's control") are completed. If that is true for USAFA, I wouldn't want to wait that long for that reason, as well as the other re-take point made above.

Good luck!

I think as long as you have three forms on your file finished, then you can do your DoDMERB. I have my CFA scheduled in December, but I took my DoDMERB about 2 weeks ago.

How do you have your CFA scheduled in December when it's due Nov 1?

I think they might have a later deadline. Although, December does seem very late. Be sure to leave yourself enough time in case something does not go well and you have to retake the test.

When you say "they" are you referring to USAFA? Or another academy? Sorry I'm a bit confused. It was to my understanding the CFA needs to be done/submitted before Nov 1

I was referring to lacebolla. USAFA has a rolling deadline which basically means that the later you start the process, the later your deadline is. My deadline is also November 1st because my candidate phase opened on July 1st. If your candidate phase opened at a later date, your deadline would be later.

I didn't know that. Thanks
