Which Senator gave a Nomination?

On my USMA portal it says I received a nomination from RI61. Does anyone know which Senator from Rhode Island it is?

That is an AHA! moment for me. Thanks!

So that's "Senator 1". I have seen it reported here that "1" means "Senior" (as in the Senator who has held office longer than the other one), but that's not entirely reliable. There exists a "Senator Numbering System" that apparently doesn't go by "seniority" in the Senate. In other words, voodoo.

The only reliable information is that you have a nomination from one of your two Senators.
You won't know which one until you get a phone call or a letter.
Congratulations. It is one less thing to worry about.

They will usually post the names of those nominated on their websites as well.

Thanks for the info on this thread. My son received a letter advising him of his Congressional Nomination, but that is not yet posted on the USMA portal, but today an XX62 nomination appeared on the portal. In reading the above thread, I take this to mean that while he has not yet heard officially from them yet, he did receive a nomination from our Junior Senator?

Your son received a nomination from one of your senators. It may or may not be the junior senator. While you will hear that 61 and 62 represent senior and junior respectively, no one can confirm it and there are plenty of examples of exceptions.

Just curious since it's being mentioned, does it matter whether the nomination is from the senior or junior senator? It is my understanding that it doesn't, since all nominations are equal as long as they are not principal, but if there is other information out there, would be interesting to know.

No, it doesn’t matter at all to admissions whether a junior or senior senator nominated you. Just need a nomination.

Many thanks for this forum... just wanted to confirm the other side of the senator-scenario: DS received a nom from our junior senator, but it shows in his portal as Senator 1. (He received a letter confirming that nomination.) He received an email confirming no nom from the senior senator.... so it looks like the Senator 1 vs Senator 2 (at least for USNA) does not equate to senior/junior senator....

My son has nomination in his USMA portal from XX62 and received a letter from our junior senator saying he was given a nomination to USAFA but no mention of USMA. So it would seem that he received the USMA nomination from our senior senator, who we have heard nothing, so the 61 vs. 62 thing remains questionable how it really is assigned.
