Hey yall, if you are from NY/have information or questions regarding NY nominations exclusively, please post here.

Has anyone heard anything back from either Senator Schumer or Gillibrand?
My son received an email today from Senator Gillibrands office. Interview next Monday.

I'll assume no email ends my trial with Sen. Gillibrand. Although I shouldn't be surprised-It's rare to get a senator's nomination, and my friend said she only wants city folk to apply. Thought I had good stats as well, good essays, the lot. Oh well.

Don't get discouraged! Keep trying to get a nomination from your MOC, VP, or for any other one that you may qualify for.

Hi! I am just wondering what the timeline is actually like. I have read what is available on the websites for the senators and congress members, but I would like to know what people have seen in reality. Preferably from MN. Thank you so much!

In my state, two senators and one representative already completed their interviews…three days before Thanksgiving.

My son interviewed with her and Schumer in 2019.

No question they favor downstate. During my son’s BGO interview, the BGO told my son that they split the state and Schumer doesn’t interview upstate. My son corrected him. The next day the BGO emailed him and told him my son was right. His experience was Schumer only nominates downstaters.

This is so disheartening to read. My son has put together thoughtful and thorough applications to all nomination sources, took time away from sports to attend in person and virtual academy nights, and asked teachers and community members to spend their time writing recommendation letters. We are from upstate New York and he has not heard about any options to interview from either senator. Not to point out the obvious, but how is neglecting Upstate potential candidates fair in anyway shape or form? Just because we live upstate he is less deserving of a possible nomination? We understand that life is not fair but this is just not right. And the worst part there’s nothing we can do about it and it seems like it is a known thing and it looks like they don’t have to change their ways they can just keep up that system. So now instead of three chances for an appointment from three different slates my son only has one chance. Again very disheartening and frustrating.

My son is in the same boat. Chin up and keep working to get that Congressional nomination!!

Do you have a nom from your representative?

As much as it it pains me, I have to say your info about Gillibrand is incorrect. She evenly distributes her nominations throughout the state. Her nominations are listed on her website, and can be found with a google search. She even lists them by region. That said, she has frequently lamented the lack of her kind of diversity in service academy admissions, so it’s tough sledding if you are a white male from the ‘burbs. Schumer doesn’t release his nominations, so I have no idea where his come from.
@2026 should be concentrating on their congressional rep. That’s where he will have the best chance of an appointment anyway. The fact that your son wasnt granted an interview by either senator in NY shouldn’t be too much of a shock. They receive an incredible number of applications and the stats of those granted interviews would knock your socks off. Also, they won’t duplicate noms, so if he wins a congressional nom, the senators require him to withdraw his application.

Thank you for your insight. You are definitely correct and it’s good to put it in perspective. My son as hard as he has worked and some great stats he has, we are realistic that he is not the top dog. Like all say here, he will concentrate on his congressman application and interview. And we are also very realistic, if it doesn’t work out we will just move on! He has other plans in the works. But again just to read that some potential candidates are not even considered it’s just unfortunate. And I hear what you were saying about they don’t duplicate nominations. But my son has been talking to a 2019 graduate that received both senator and congressional nominations and she was from downstate. Maybe the timing just worked out that way or wires got crossed or something but she got three nominations.

I said the NY Senators favor downstate, and I think that is true.

Schumer is absolutely true. Gillibrand - I admit is anecdotal evidence I have. Maybe diversity is the issue and not region.

Key word is SHE, followed by downstate.
