2028 State Nominations Thread

In a competitive district, there could be dozens with similar stats.

More than just a competitive district, the post was referencing a senatorial nomination. In a state with the population of Florida, ten nominations get used up fast and so do interview slots.

Now if we were talking about Wyoming...

Exactly.

My son did not have competition on his district slate. But the Senate slates had all of the districts’ top candidates from around NYS.

Many people ignore your point.

It's quite common to see applicants with 1500+ SAT (98-99 percentile) with 4.3+ GPA in my congressional district. There are so many applicants for nomination, interviews are conducted across two full days for USNA and one full day each for AFA and WP.

What is your district?

I wouldn’t be intimidated by high SAT or GPA as there is so much more to an individual than just those two numbers.

My DS was emailed that he will not get an interview a couple days ago. He is in 97th percentile ACT, top 7% of his class, 3rd in command in JROTC and was selected for both Inspire and SS this year. Already passed CFA. Email states an unprecedented number of applicants in Fl this year.
My DD did not get one from Scott either. Great test scores and GPA, captain of rowing team, Girl’s State, SLE, Inspire Program. Same message. Fingers crossed for Rubio!

You mean like 3 season athlete PLUS All-Conference X Country Plus a 10-15 hrs/week job PLUS multi-athletic team captaincies PLUS Captain of Debate PLUS Captain of Math Olympiad team PLUS Eagle Scout PLUS Boys State PLUS top 20 in graduating class PLUS multiple APs PLUS extremely high SATs. . .

Bottom Line: There are kids who are competitive whether test scores or (often inflated) GPAs are included or not. That kid got his appointment in early December.

Exactly.

The common thing my son’s basketball team would tease him about was his high grades - immediately anyone with top grades is book smart and not street smart. One could be both.

In page 2 of this thread people were talking about staying the course for Feinstein's office, but I sent an email asking if they were still processing a few days ago, and no response. In addition, when I go to her site to log into my online application to print out, it says "
Thank you for contacting the office of Senator Feinstein. Unfortunately we are no longer able to take in requests. Please contact the office of Senator Padilla for assistance." -> So I'm going to assume Feinstein and the new sworn in Sen. Butler will not be processing? In this case does Sen. Padilla receive 20 slots for nominations? I'm a bit frustrated because I already live in a competitive district, California being as competitive as it is already makes it tough, and it now seems that 50% of potential senator nominations have just gone out the window. Any information or updates (or advice?)

Nom slates are due to the SAs on 31 January.

The new Senator and staff will resume business; continuity of operations and government will drive the transition.

Her funeral was today. Let her staff mourn and the offices be closed except for urgent business of the nation, at least for a few business days. Though urgent to you, SA noms are probably not as urgent to the staff this week.

Late next week, you could contact Senator Padilla’s SA nom staffers and ask if they know what next steps are for the other office.

Senator Butler’s website is probably being built and populated right now. Keep an eye out for that.

Don’t assume anything. Remain positive. Breathe.

Yep of course, a big part of the panic was Feinstein's Oct 14th deadline for the full packet, and my counselor has been asking me if he should send his letter of rec etc. I'll ask Sen. Padilla's office for any information, and look out for Sen. Butler's website. Thank you for the reassurance - I've been kinda panicking lately

Research SEAL box breathing to dilute panic and get internally calmed.

I use this when I need to settle and focus.

I can’t imagine they won’t extend some grace in this circumstance. I would note a time or two that you tried to access your online portal (just in case - don’t go waving it around without prompting). Use this time to make sure you have your absolute best nom packet together.

DD has been selected for an interview via Senator Rubio! She’s so honored to have been selected.
