Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

Our plan B is a non AFROTC scholarship, but the Presidential Scholarship (full tuition) awarded by Auburn. He chose this over the Baylor scholarship since he and a couple of friends will just join up with the AU AFROTC when they arrive on campus. We only lose out the $200 deposit if the BFE and successful BCT occurs. You just don't know what can happen at BCT and next thing you know you are medically DQ'ed as a result of an injury. With plan B in place he could still make the fall semester and he keeps his scholarship. Good luck to you!

If my son Plan B's he'll see them there, he's got both an AFROTC and an Auburn scholarship and he's been enrolled in the Honors and Engineering Colleges and at Det 5. Hopefully the boys will meet - west of here - though!

Best

A good chunk of them - TSI, SCI, and higher - particularly with the officers.

I just really wonder if any of the background checks that are done on future cadets is so that they can get at least an interim security clearance for access to some classified materials while at USAFA for projects or classified briefings presented by Air Force Project Offices. This is probably how they might help the cadets in choosing a career path in the AF.

I personally have no idea, but I'll bet someone here has a clue on that. Almost everything seems to be classified nowadays anyhow. My previous security clearance has been very useful with MARSEC work I do in conjunction with our Port Project.

TWE Today

DS got a TWE today. The bar is set really high this year. DS had a 1360 SAT (690 CR 670 Math), good grades, lots of AP classes, captain of his wrestling team, band student of the year, great CFA, congressional nom, DODMERB qualified, etc.

He is disappointed, but hopes to hear from the USNA or the USCGA. If that does not work out, there is always the fast food industry - just kidding. Good luck to everyone.

Oh my, I had the impression from reading these threads that the TWEs wouldn't go out until after the bulk of the BFEs were sent out. Now, I'm even more nervous about going to the mailbox. :frown: Thank goodness DS's Plan B has solidified. :thumb:
Eagleone, your family sounds like it has a great outlook and sense of humor. Hope your DS gets good news from USNA or USCGA. Good luck.

Sorry about the bad news eagleone, but something good will come of this. Remember the cream always rises to the top!

Wow I was under the same impression TWE after BFE. Good luck to your DS Eagleone.

Well, we now know that TWE's have been sent out.... Best of luck to all of the candidates! What are y'alls plan B's?

We haven't heard from the USAFA yet (which is his first choice, of course), but we received some INCREDIBLE news from AFROTC today and I'm so proud of our son that I am about to explode. He got the Type I scholarship!!!! I'm doing back flips over here and bouncing off the walls. I feel so honored to be this kid's mom. I'm sending up praises of thanksgiving to the Lord above. His blessings are abundant. Thank you, Lord for blessing our son with the abilities and talents to earn such a prestigious award. And thank you for blessing our family with this amazing young man who more than anything else wants to serve this country to his fullest capacity. What a beautiful day this is and definitely a good week to have a birthday (mine) !!!!!!!! Woohoo, so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! Can I ask how you found out? Phone call? Letter? ROTC portal? We are on vacation and have not had phone service all day and obviously not home to check the mail. Thanks!

You are in my thoughts.

Now i'm really scared to check the mail when we get home from vacation...

Best wishes to your DS.

Execution of our plan B has begun. DS has accepted non AFROTC scholarship (full tuition) to Auburn which affords him the opportunity to register for fall classes this summer. If BFE comes in the plan is to not cancel plan B until successful completion of BCT (basically avoid injury).

He got the letter today (Wednesday), the portal hasn't updated. This is funny, because we have a post office box and don't go every single day, only about 3 times a week (oh and I kind of hate to admit this, but sometimes I call the mail clerk on the days, I don't go, just to check if it's here, I haven't told DS I do that, really don't want to come across too stalkerish :frown:) Anyway, today, DS went to the PO Box to get the mail and I stayed in the car. He comes out with a BFE and my insides come up into my throat. He gets in and all I see is big blue letters spelling AIR FORCE and I don't bother looking further. I start screaming excitedly as he is trying to open it. I really thought it was from USAFA, But it was from ROTC, however it was still really fantastic news and worth screaming about. So glad he got to get that letter himself, because it is usually me going alone to the post office to get the mail. I don't think I should be going to get the mail alone anymore. I think I will use the buddy system from now on, or someone is likely to find me passed out in there. :stretcher:

At least y'all don't have to wait for the monthly commander's call to find out what you're doing for the next 4 years of your life.

My commander told me today that he won't be notified until may. It sucks, but I don't think he'd wait for a commander's call considering we'd have to leave in June if we got an appointment.

See I'm in the Guard and we only do things once a month... Did your CC give any insight into how he knows it won't be til May?

Negative, it was a random conversation. I ended up in line with him in the dfac and we just started talking about it. I mentioned I was hoping to hear by april and he told me it wouldn't be until may. However, other sources have said before mid april. I just need to stop stressing out about it. I'll know when I know.

Congrats!

Congratulations to your DS, and of course to his parents, who molded him into the young man he is today!:thumb:

There was nothing in today's mail but I did just check DS's AFROTC scholarship status: "Congratulations! You were awarded a scholarship. You will be receiving written confirmation via mail within the next few weeks." YAHOO!! It was updated sometime after my last status stalk, I mean "check" at 9 AM. Can't wait to find out what type. I am very excited for my son!
