GPA Refiguration?

Hi Everyone,

So I completely finished my application meaning that I received my nomination, medical status, etc. The last item I had to send in was my college transcripts. They were processed last week but my GPA didn't change at all. I was expecting it to go up considering that I took full-time college classes in high school. Is it likely to stay the same or change?

I had the same exact thing happen! I totally thought my GPA would be weighted, but it didn't change. I'm not sure why. My application deadline was 11/13, but my GPA has been in my portal for months now, and no changes were made.

DD also thought her GPA would be recalculated higher since her school does not weight for AP/Dual Enroll/Honors classes on transcript, but it remained exactly the same.

Is the GPA that USAFA configures weighted or unweighted? Because I currently have a 4.0 unweighted but heavy AP classes as well. Is 4.0 the max it can be? Thanks.

Pretty sure that USAFA uses unweighted because different schools can use different weights for classes. Using unweighted "levels the playing field."

USAFA uses unweighted as a starting point, and they weight it according to your high school profile and their own formula. Thus, your GPA can stay the same or be adjusted up or down depending on their calculations. In my son's case, his HS does not weight GPA at all. USAFA took his 3.86 and made it a 4.0.

Thanks for the response. So it's possible they could still weigh my GPA but it's not guaranteed?

My transcript was received late November, I have a 3.84 UW GPA. My high school doesn't use weighted GPA, but I've taken 9 Honors courses and 5 AP courses through my junior year. An additional 2 honors courses and 3 APs this year. my GPA on my portal is still at 3.84, although I attend the #1 high school in CA and have taken several Honors/AP classes. Based on historical data, should I expect a boost in my recalculated GPA or will it probably stay the same at 3.84? Thanks!

Our DS had an unweighted GPA of 4.0 (and a weighted GPA somewhat higher). On his portal, it always showed 4.0 and never changed from that.

I was always curious about this. I don’t come from a “top high school” and USAFA raised my already weighted GPA.

Along the same lines but a slightly different topic, when folks say they have X number of honors and APs, etc., are you counting the year as 1 or two semesters as 2. For example, if you took AP Chemistry junior year, is that 1 AP or 2 AP's? Not sure it matters but I was curious.
