Hello! I got an LOE from the Air Force Academy in mid-December that said a spot in the USAFA class of 2027 would be reserved for me provided I "meet all admissions requirements to include a qualified medical status." The letter continued to ask me to "submit all [of my] remaining admissions requirements by January 6, 2023." As of mid-december, my ALO interview and DODMERB Medical were outstanding (I got my nomination in early December). Now, my ALO interview has been received and my and DODMERB file has been sent to the DODMERB (as stated by DODMETS). However, the status on my Air Force Academy portal for the medical is still an "X" (see attached).

Have I fully "qualified" for this LOE? Have I submitted all my remaining admissions requirements? Is there something I should do? I'm concerned that the outstanding medical on my portal may raise issues since it may not be resolved before the 6th (even if my medical file has been sent to the DODMERB). If I've fully qualified for the LOE, will it turn into a LOA? What are the steps in the next few months?

Let me know what you think! I feel that the situation is now out of my hands; I don't think I can call someone to "check" the medical off in my portal. It's a waiting game now.

Contact your admissions advisor. They will be able to tell you your status.

DodMERB medical is not subjected to the January 6 deadline. I think you have until April. LOA is also not subjected to medical status, or having a LOE. There have been LOAs issued for candidates that have not yet medically qualified. LOE may turn into LOA, but not always. I believe that the medical status on the candidate portal will remain "X" until DodMERB has finished the review and medically qualified you, or the Academy has granted you medical waiver.

Ok, thanks so much! I'll see how medical goes, now we just gotta wait.
