NROTC Navy Results

@Tucker2023 That's interesting. It probably varies depending on what the waiver is for. I called my DODMERB technician a ton and eventually got the head of waivers for NROTC's phone number. NROTC began the waiver process for me (like USNA). It never hurts to call. It's still pretty early in the process and DODMERB may be super backed up (they've been anytime I've tried to interact with them.

Most of the whole story:
I got my DQ update (Eyesight) on 25 April and had a request for a remedial on 30 April. Went to DODMETS remedial and to my own and chose to submit my own attachment. After reaching out to head of waivers for NROTC, I heard from here I was good to go during the second week of June. Fast forward two months my portal still hasn't updated, and a frantic call to the same person revealed for some reason there was some hold on my status that wasn't supposed to be there and should clear up. Two weeks later the letter came officially.

Note: Based on talking to friends, my situation with the hold and delay was unique to me. Nobody needs to loose sleep at night thinking it may happen to them. Best situation is to be proactive

*It should be noted that the DODMERB system underwent an update last year that changed some statuses in the system that caused people to freak out, everyone I know wound up being okay.

Any idea of the latest date we could hear back from the scholarship? I know that people heard back last year as late as April 30, but is there an official date?

I received word last Friday, not necessarily “official” word, but nonetheless I was informed this Friday by my local recruiters via phone call that I had received the NROTC MO scholarship. Hope this helps... from reading other ROTC posts on this site it seems that a lot of people started getting the thumbs up or down starting on Friday.

I don't believe there is an "official" date, except that all notifications should be out by April 30, in time for national college decision day. Good luck to you and hopefully you have been finalizing Plans B-Z as well.

Additionally, I’ve heard that the later the response, the better. Working on plans B,C,D etc. is advised though; I can tell you I was completely expecting to be rejected and had plans C and D all lined up.

DS received NROTC scholarship to 1st choice school today. So thankful for everyone on this forum for their help throughout this process. To those still waiting, I wish you the best of luck.

Congratulations! Which school? Also did he apply for the LREC scholarship?

Good morning, can the NROTC Scholarship be used for an alternate school ? In the event of NOT being accepted to the 5 selected schools, or had a late change of heart and going with an alternated school (outside of the listed 5) ?

Anyone been through this or have an info on it?

Thanks

Your scholarship can be placed at any school that you've been admitted to that has an NROTC unit.

My dilemma is that I wasn’t accepted to any of the 5 schools I originally selected. When I applied to the ROTC Scholarship, I had to choose a specific department to satisfy the Scholarship (not regular admission).

Now I need to find schools with rolling admissions that accept the NROTC Scholarship, and hope I do and maybe next year, roll it over to my original choice schools if accepted. Does this make sense ?

Makes no sense at all. Once you're at a school, you will need permission above the unit level to transfer the scholarship to a different school. Many folks transfer for one reason or another, and lose the scholarship.

Whatever school you decide to apply to, contact the NROTC unit at that college to see if they can help with that application. In fact, maybe even ask that question before you apply as otherwise it might be hopeless.

Were you not accepted at any schools with an NROTC unit? If you were then there must be some major at that college which meets your NROTC tier requirements. Whether that's a major you would be interested in is another matter.

My DS received a three year scholarship yesterday at the College of the Holy Cross. It was a long process... USNA turn down, 1st year NROTC turn down, but he joined the College Program at Holy Cross and worked hard. So, lesson learned: never give up, stay the course and good things happen.

My DS switched his scholarship from where it was originally placed to a school that was not on his original list of 5. He did this last week and it was simply submitting a form and the change was reflected in his portal the following day....really easy to do. As long as the school where you are accepted is either a host unit for NROTC or a crosstown affiliate, it should not be a problem for you to change placement either.

What did you mean by "I’ve heard that the later the response, the better." My son has AROTC and AFROTC 4-year. My husband and I both served in the Navy, so we are "not so patiently" waiting for NROTC.

Congrats. Good to hear. The change form you mention to change school on scholarship, was submitted today (hopefully portal will reflect change sooner than later, like you said), and waiting for reply from alt (not top 5) for acceptance. FYI... NROTC is on site at the school “#6” ...

Keeping the faith !

A) Awaiting to have school changed on scholarship (doc sent)
B) seeking acceptance into school #6 (who have a NROTC program on site)

This is my goal now... others speculations / ideas will be considered at a later date..

Thanks for making time for my situation. I respect your feedback @kinnem

I’ve heard basically throughout my entire process that if you haven’t heard a response... it means that they’re still deciding. Better than getting rejected in my mind but I know what you mean, the wait for me was agonizing.

If a ROTC Scholarship is attained and the. accepted, can it be declined afterwards if you decide to go another route ? I’m talking about during the app process, prior to committing to a non ROTC affiliated school

You can even commit to a school and still decline the scholarship. They can't force it on you.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind that the first year is on them. You can do a ROTC program your freshman year as as long as you drop before classes start sophomore year, there is no payback.

Acceptance of an ROTC scholarship is not binding. You can always decline it later. This happens every year as applicants are awarded ROTC scholarships to more than one branch and accept all before deciding which to use. Or are awarded an ROTC scholarship, then are appointed to a service academy and decide to go that route. Or if they change their mind and decide not to do ROTC.
