So is the thinking that if the USMA/USNA portals are not updated by the end of the day local time, it's done?

Daughter just received a nomination in her portal for USAFA from MN senator 81. Showed up in her portal yesterday. No letter or phone call from anyone and still no word from representative. Hope others also received good news from MN.
Congrats on the MN nom, good to hear. DS got good nom news as well......USNA and USAFA. It is now in the Lord's hands to make a way for appointment.

It's not over until the TWE comes in. There's always the VP nom and other discretionary noms, or the academy can even "find" you a nom on an open slate. They're rare paths but do happen every year. Stay hopeful.

NO!

First of all, the MOC's deadline is today and it can take some time for things to be settled on the portals.
Secondly, be assured that if a Senator is late by a day or two, the SA is not going to lock out their chances to nominate a slate.

If you're looking for a definite end date, there really is not one until you get a formal rejection.

I have just received a nomination to USMA from Mace (SC-01) does anyone know why it shows up twice in the portal? Is this just a glitch?

Not a glitch! It means you received two noms from the same source. Each MOC gets 5 slots at a given academy, meaning 5 slates. Some years they use two slates instead of one, this cycle happened to be one of those years, and they decided to submit you on both! Congrats, just means that there's another slate you can compete to be charged to.

How can they find a nom on an open slate? For example, if there is 5 candidates on a slate, and at least one of them is qualified, wouldn't the appointment go to him/her before someone from out of the district or state?

That's why it's very rare, and usually for LOA candidates who didn't get noms, but somehow it happens. Admissions controls who wins slates... perhaps from rural areas slates go unfilled because of medical qualification or they're charged elsewhere or something.

If the congressperson didn't put forward a candidate as the principal and they're 3Q ^, then admissions controls it.

Klobuchar and Smith won’t typically call you. You’ll get a nice note in the mail - and if you got Klobuchar’s nom you probably won’t get Smith’s and vice-versus. At least one Representative I know of won’t call either. Don’t expect a call if you get an appointment either.
