AIM Application

So far I am in the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar, but because I am in (literally) the most competitive district for congressional nominations, I'm also applying to the Coast Guard Academy.

I applied to AIM a while ago, and when I asked my mom which week I should put in for she told me I couldn't do any of the weeks. However, the day of the deadline she asked me why I didn't apply and that I would actually be able to go.

I had everything that I needed, however, did not have any of the optional recommendations. My counselor, who filled out the necessary recommendation, barely knows me at all. I could have had beautiful recommendations from my JROTC instructor and/or Debate Coach, but did not have the time. I submitted the application last minute.

My question is, will it hurt me to not have a recommendation from people that know me? And does the Coast Guard Academy have anything that asks about other seminars assuming that AIM rejects me?

DS was denied for AIM last summer and was pretty discouraged as USCGA at the time was his #1 choice. He still applied EA and was surprised with an offer of appointment in early November. I say "surprised" because his application was good compared to the average stats we had seen but by no means stellar. He has now chosen USMA but it was a tough decision. He is definitely a proponent of EA.

Sharing the above to show that not getting into AIM is not a deal breaker to getting into CGA.
Per AO, many people apply to AIM and don't get selected because the demand exceeds the spots available. My DS did not get selected for AIM but was invited to apply for cadet for a day instead as that is the alternative option given to those that apply but do not get in.

Do you know if they ask about other seminars?

Do you mean other Service Academy Seminars? They're not like AIM...

If so, I don't think so. It's just up to you to make sure they don't coincide.

The rumors going around are that AIM is slowly going to become more similar to the other summer seminars than to a week of swab summer starting this year.
 
Any idea as to when the acceptances/rejections will be released and how ( email or portal ) ?

After we completed swab summer we heard from the AIM cadre that there had been some incidents with the physical exercise portion of AIM which will likely lead to a revised SOP regarding AIM.

Are you part of the admissions staff? Since you are from upstate NY it seems like you are "McIntyre-Coble"
I could be wrong, but if you are a part of admissions that is pretty awesome.
 
I heard that they won't be running anyone up the hills (AIM or SWABS) due to an increase issue with shin splits running up hills on pavement. AIM is a screening process, and a good one. It is not a game for a reason. Too many appointees arrive at SA's clueless to the mental and physical expectations of a SA. AIM is an awesome program, because it gives a potential Candidate a realistic look at Academy life. Best to find out sooner, than later that Academy life is not for you. My DS loved it. He got a taste of the real bonding that will occur during SWAB summer. He has stayed in contact with many of his AIM mates.

No. I am an Admissions Partner, a volunteer working for Admissions, as is Grevar. My son is in the Class of 2017. LT McIntyre-Coble is an Admissions Officer, which is a commissioned USCG officer.
 
Last year they were notified via e-mail on a specified date. There was a computer glitch that caused some issues. We have all learned to be a gumby (flexible).
It is a CGA thing. If I hear otherwise, I'll post it.
