yeah, "K-rats"? I got in on the last of the C-rats. Most of them tasted like a roll of nickels.Darn! You guys are too quick. I was hoping I could stump the MRE generation.
No K-rations for me but lots of C-rations.
@Devil Doc, you’re right. C-Rations it was. I would have been eating K-rations with the Duke had I been on the set of The Sands of Iwo Jima. I transitioned to MRE's and I liked the beef stew. Still miss my trusty John Wayne.yeah, "K-rats"? I got in on the last of the C-rats. Most of them tasted like a roll of nickels.
I thought so. I was first generation MRE. I use the large John Wayne can openers at home. They are easier on the old fingers but keep me connected to my youth.@Devil Doc, you’re right. Which except for the ham and eggs...weren't too bad.Darn! You guys are too quick. I was hoping I could stump the MRE generation.

My favorites were “beans and balls” and “beans and baby xxxx” along with a shot of Tabasco sauce.Which except for the ham and eggs...weren't too bad.

And who could pass up the pound cake?
The peanut butter was great to eat (and light fires) but the crackers were nearly inedible dry.
By a new one for under 5 bucksIt's the "John Wayne" for K-rations. I kept the trusty can opener with dog tags. Airport security confiscated it from my shave kit at Heathrow after 9/11. I pleaded with security to let me keep because of sentimental value (I had it from my first MARG cruise). Some Briton is probably showing it off or using it.

my grandma had a picture similar to this. She was a navy nurse, and my Grandpa was stationed there. He served on the Arizona, but was transferred off of it to a ship in the Philippines just a few months before 7 December. I hope to see the islands someday, it's on my bucket list.Diamond Head, 1933. I was stationed on a ship out of Pearl Harbor in the age of color photography but found this old photo and thought it was worthy of sharing.
