Hey everyone, I took my CFA recently and think I did well on everything but the pushups. My proctor said it was my call if I wanted to submit my score but he recommended not sending it. What do you all think? My scores (I am a male) were: Pushups: 31, Basketball throw: 74'2", Pull-ups: 8, Shuttle Run: 8.8, Sit-ups: 58, Mile Run: 6:20. Passing or Failing? Will take it again on Oct. 21st if it is a fail.

Most regional commanders will let you retake the CFA at no cost. Check in with your RC if this is the case. If it is, submit it and if it’s a fail, contact your RC and let him know you’re retaking it. Most likely, the 31 is a fail, but no one knows for sure the guidelines. However, I have had friends at SLE who got in between 40 and 50 push-ups and their scores for the push-ups were labeled as at risk. So, very likely that the 31 push-ups would be a fail.

Good luck!

I have an excel formula that I used for my DS. This is just a guide and by no means 100% accurate. If I put your numbers in this is what I see. The mean values were taken from the USAFA website so I'm not sure if the USMA is more strick, I would guess so.

The pushup score is significantly below an average CFA score. A single failed event on the CFA will result in a fail of the CFA. Your proctor seems to have been trying to help you from having to deal with a failed CFA. Work on your pushups (with perfect form for the videos) and then re-submit. Make sure your other events don't suffer - continue working on the other events while you are strengthening your pushup score.

Could you share the formula sheet?

I'd say pushups are definitely at risk. I had a friend at SLE who was told his pushups were at risk who I think got 37, so definitely retake for pushups.

Do not send it.

I shared it in the post below. I had to convert it to excel since I originally did it in google sheets. You'll have to add the conditional formatting back in.

The minimum for pushups is 30. You passed but I would really focus on pushups these next 2 weeks and take it again on Oct. 21.

Up your push-ups first. Drop your mile time if you can. Most everything else is alright.

My DD took her CFA about three weeks ago, and we're still waiting for her videos to be reviewed. She did great in everything but pushups. Although she did 32, her evaluator only counted 23 because her elbows weren't 90 degrees. We are expecting that she didn't pass due to it.

Does anyone know if cadets can take the CFA past the application deadline? I can't find in her application that it gives a hard date, but for some reason, I feel like it will be 11/08/2023. We're getting worried that with how long it's taking to review her pushup and pullup video we're going to run out of time.

Thanks again, and good luck to you, Warman620!

The overall application deadline is January 31st. The CFA CANNOT be submitted after that— no exceptions. Nominating authorities or an LOA (if received) may have earlier deadlines, but barring either of those she should be able to take it again until that deadline. For now, I’d say the best thing for her to do is wait for review of her videos and practice the events she struggled with until then. Even if she doesn’t have to retake it, there’s surely benefit to be had in getting better at push-ups before Beast.

I saw that you’re in Alabama— the RC for the Southeast allows multiple retakes, so your DD should be fine in that regard as long as she puts together a passing score by January 31st.

Can anyone tell me if my scores are acceptable? Basketball throw 70 ft, 11 pullups, 8.6 sec shuttle run, 80 modified sit ups, 47 pushups, 6:52 mile.

Looks pretty solid to me! Hoping that your videos are accepted without complications.

Are Hand Release pushups acceptable for the CFA? I know that is the norm for the ACFT
By hand release, do you mean raising hands off the floor to take a break? Or raising hands off the changing grips?

When I took the CFA at SLE, they made it clear that we can only slides our hands to change positions. And we can only rest in the up postion. Otherwise, we had to be at a 90 degree angle.

If the hand went off the floor at any moment, we were done.
