I received an LOA for West Point around a month ago, and am afraid I'm going to fail the CFA. I'm taking it this Thursday, and have to submit it by 10/15/23. If I send the results on the day I take it or very soon after, if I fail will my LOA be rescinded? I've heard it takes a while for them to review the videos, and they send the results to multiple reviewers before coming to a conclusion. Originally, I was planning on training for it and taking it sometime in October, however, when I received the LOA I had to push the date forward. I'm afraid that I'm going to submit it, West Point is going to review it, I'm going to fail, and my LOA will be rescinded because my CFA result was submitted back to me after the deadline posted in the letter. Does anyone know what happens in this situation?

You simply need to submit the score and videos by the required date. Don’t worry about how long USMA might take to evaluate your submission. Don’t take it early unless you are ready to pass.

Submitting it late is the wrong thing to do, as the culture in the military is if you are on time, you are late, meaning the day before the due date is even better. Do your best and deal with the consequences. Do not compound any CFA weakness by late submission - not a good look at all.

You have conditions to meet for your LOA. You have some time to strategically hit your training. If you want this, you will make it a priority. If you don’t meet your conditions, then you will have to see what USMA decides to do. You would still be in the running for an appointment without an LOA - most cadets didn’t have them.

Focus on what you can control: your CFA effort and when you take it. There is zip you can do about anything else.

It should not occur to you to plan to submit anything late, barring some catastrophic event.

Good luck!

One other thought: you may ask for an extension of the deadline. I don't mean December, but perhaps an extra two to four weeks. Tell Admissions why you would like the added time, and if they accept your proposal, then deliver the results on-time(!). If they do not grant the extension, then provide your best score by the deadline noted previously. The key point from @dddad, @Capt MJ and me is to take responsibility and show USMA you are worthy of the LOA and appointment. Good luck with your preparation for the CFA!

I was definitely not going to submit it late. I'm trying to get my file together (except for nomination) by October 1st, 2 weeks before the deadline. Thank you for the advice!

I would do a practice cfa and see what you need to work on. Tape the videos just like you would if you were submitting it. review the videos to see if your form is correct. then take the 3 weeks you need to improve areas and take the actual cfa and submit right away before the oct 15 deadline.

Good morning. My son had an LOA last year, when he turned his first CFA he needed to redo the pullups they gave him a few more weeks for him to redo it and he had no issues.

Good luck and focus in your interview skills to get that nomination. Make sure you mention the LOA very humbly at the conclusion of your interview :)
