My DD got noms to USAFA from Gillibrand and our MOC.
Hello!
How did that work? Did your DD inform one of them when she received the other nomination? My DS had to withdraw his application to one after he informed them he has secured a nomination from another source.
I am hopeful the “rules” or instructions are consistent across the board for everyone.

Maybe they don’t coordinate with a particular MOC? sometimes it’s not consistent across a state. I know in our state, our MOC did not coordinate with senators but I believe others did. Or they may coordinate for one Academy, but not another. It depends on various factors and I believe it is up to them whether they choose to coordinate or not.

Well there you go, and I also read elsewhere that someone received double Noms from Gillibrand to the USNA and was just appointed to the USNA

In a post from a previous year it was mentioned that they received a nom from one of the senators even though they had informed both senators that they had received a nom from a congressperson.

Mixed Signals! Yes, you are correct, NY Sens say to inform them if you received a nom to the same SA already, however, this forum will tell do not to do that, because a double or even triple nom to the same SA will obviously increase your chances for an appointment. No consistency and fairness across the board here, other states get away with the double & triple plays and others don't.

During the zoom call interview my DS was specifically told/asked by the Senator’s office to inform them if he received another nomination. So when he got his MOC nomination he followed the directive from the Senator’s office and called and told them. They withdrew his application from further consideration.

It’s just unfortunate if people know the rules and they decide not to follow them. We told my son it’s his application and his integrity connected to it. He made his own decision whether to follow the request or not. You just hope the process is fair for everyone involved as they do give out directives and requests as part of their process.

It was very confusing. I'll start off by saying my DD is very independent. I haven't seen any of her essays or laid eyes on any SA or civilian college portals. I'm living off of scraps of information that she has been willing to share and I'm not positive I have the full story. I've been operating in the background trying to respect her independence while making sure nothing is missed. SAF has been a fantastic resource for this.

She was on the later side of completing her applications (I think she submitted them around the first of the year). She got an LOA to USNA on Jan 13th, before she knew she had a nom from the MOC. The MOC allowed students to apply to more than one SA so she picked USNA #1 and USAFA #2. After being told she received her LOA, she was informed that all she needed was a clean bill of health from DODMERB for a full appointment. She was surprised to see she didn't need a nom. When she checked her portal she saw that she had a nom, but couldn't figure out the source. I then emailed her admissions officer at USNA to confirm she had a nom and it was confirmed that our MOC was her nom source (his office never called to inform her).

Soon thereafter, DD received a call (at school) from Gillibrand's office telling her she received a nom to USAFA (I believe Gillibrand only allowed students to choose one SA and DD chose USAFA as a backup in case her #2 selection with the MOC didn't come through). Senator Gillibrand's staffer asked DD if she had received alternative noms. My daughter told the staffer that she had been nominated for USNA by the MOC. Gillibrand's staffer then asked her which SA was her top choice and DD told her "probably USNA". DD was then asked if she still wanted to keep her USAFA nom from the Senator and DD said "yes". A letter from our MOC then came in the mail congratulating DD on being nominated for both USNA and USAFA. It was at that time (after telling Gillibrand's office that she wanted to keep her USAFA nom) that she even realized that she had received a nom to USAFA from our MOC. She thought she had only received a nom to USNA from the MOC.

I know her nominating source to USNA is the MOC and I believe her nominating source to USAFA is Gillibrand (but I'm not 100% sure). This confusion could have been avoided if the MOC had called DD instead of mailing her the letter which took longer to arrive. Either way, I am very appreciative of the effort that our MOC and Senator put into this process and I am deeply grateful that they saw fit to nominate our DD.

I’m so happy for her that it’s working out….congrats to her and you all as a family!!

I was going to add the story but it was a little bit lengthy so I just kept it short….but here it is. A bit similar to hers….in summary my son interviewed on a Saturday with the MOC. He had the Senator interview the next Friday at 9 AM. He ducked out of his high school class to interview on the zoom. During the zoom call the staffer asked him if he had another nomination to another source and he said no. She then said if you do get another nomination please call us and let us know.
That same day his nomination letter from his MOC came in the mail! He didn’t open it until he came home from work that evening. He then did get in touch with the staffer at the beginning of the next week to tell him that he received another nomination.

We certainly would have been in the position of possibly having two nominations if the MOC‘s office was not so quick with their decision you know? It’s probably like ships passing in the night. So obviously situations like that there may be two nominations received and it’s just because of timing of how it all pans out. Again just to reiterate it would be nice if the Senator and MOC processes just unfolded with whoever they interview. But again they must have their reasons or maybe it’s even different in different parts of the state. It’s probably a process we don’t even want to try to figure out!

Congrats again thank you for the post.

Congrats to your son on the USAFA appointment! Has he laid eyes on the campus yet? We have been to Annapolis and are about to head back for a CVW, but haven't been to CO. I heard USAFA doesn't have a version of CVW and It didn't make much sense to go there before knowing if she got in or not. Over the summer, DD and I jumped in the car and visited several schools on the East Coast. USNA was her favorite by far. If she gets an appointment at USAFA, we will probably need to fly to CO before she makes any final decisions.

100% recommend visiting. My visit cemented my desire for USAFA. It was the only school, of maybe 17 I looked at, that gave me that feeling of “this is the place I belong.” I even had the chance of meeting Col. Kim Campbell.

Unfortunately no we have not had a chance to go out there. So he did accept his appointment site unseen. We are hopeful it was the right decision :) good luck in these upcoming months and making a decision!

He will love it here. We live in Colorado and while it is nice, the USAFA is a world of its own. The USAFA is breathtaking and you don't even realize just how close it is to the big cities. My son is the youngest of five, so we have traveled all over checking out colleges, various military bases (one boy navy, one army), and traveled the world with sports seeing even more college campuses, and the USAFA is definitely one of the top ones. We drive by the USAFA all the time, but until you have done a tour, you don't even know how amazing it is. We did a windshield tour last year and it was spectacular just sitting in the overlook areas, using the maps to determine what fields and buildings where what. That windshield tour solidified his decision on USAFA, being his top pick. Then a couple months ago we did the admissions tour and finally got to see inside the buildings and have all of his questions answered. It was so worth going on that tour and made me fall in love with it.. your son will know it was the right decision, the second he sees it. Congratulations on his appointment

Thank you so much! We are thrilled and very much looking forward to seeing it in just a few months. Even though we won’t be able to see it together as a family at least we will be there :) thanks again!

Congrats to her! What district are you from?

I finally heard back from the last nom source that had responded the latest. Received a letter from Senator Kennedy stating that I did not get a nomination from him but wanted to congratulate me for getting noms from another source. So now that concludes my little saga in the nomination process. I have gotten 2 out of the 3 sources that I applied to (Representative Scalise and Senator Cassidy being the ones I got them from). Would like to hear any other fellow Louisianians, what sources yall got yours from. Cheers!

Has anyone heard from Maryland reps/senators? My daughter will be applying for class of '27 and I'm trying to anticipate when MD noms may drop. Thanks.
