Kinda new here so forgive the question, but does the last response mean that for the USAFA , the nomination is one where the candidate won the slate or was top candidate; and the other nominations are competive?

Correct. It took me finally reading the congressional handbook to understand the various methods of nomination, so no need to apologize!

Has anyone in New Jersey heard back from Booker or Menedez? Or does anyone know when they typically let candidates know? Thanks!
Last year their second round of interviews were around this time. DD had her MOC nomination in writing by the 10th of Dec 2016. I'm pretty certain everyone gets an interview unless you already have an appointment.

Ok Everyone - have a question on Nominations. DS got a letter from MOC which reads: “ I have nominated you as a Congressional Competitor to the USNA and USMMA. In addition you have also been chosen to receive a nomination to the USAFA.”

Any ideas how to interpret “Congressional competitor” and why would the wording be different for USAFA?

Got a response from MOC Office - all three nominations are actually on Competitive Slates... no principal nominee in any of them. They just word it this way.

Al Franken's office "postponed" interviews 3 days before when they were to happen. Now he's announced his upcoming resignation. His office isn't taking calls. Does anyone know what could/might become of the interviews and or nominations from his office?

I simply cannot imagine the angst you must feel at being 3 days away from a nomination interview and having it postponed because this clownshoe announced his resignation.
I hope that they will have someone step in and take care of it, for your sake. Especially if it's your 3rd interview and you don't have a nomination yet.

I guess this is a similar question to several above, and I apologize if this is repetitive, but this is somewhat confusing and we are new to this. DS received his nomination letter from our MOC this past weekend. It says "I have submitted your name to the USMA, the USAFA and the USNA to compete for appointments to the classes entering in July 2018". So from reading the earlier responses, DS is competing against the national list of other candidates? Also, is it normal for a candidate to receive all three MA nominations or do they usually only receive their top one or two choices? Thanks!

Hi, if you wouldn’t mind sharing, which MOC did you hear from? I’m from MA district 6. I don’t think I can answer your question for your specific case, but I do know that my congressman (Seth Moulton) nominates for multiple academies. A friend of mine who is now at USAFA got nominations from Moulton for USNA, USAFA, and USMA last year. Hope this helps! Good luck to your DS.

I wanted to revive this thread and find out how Mississippi families and DD/DS are doing. Has your DD/DS received a LOA? Nomination?
This has been a two year process that we have supported our DD in and to have it finally coming to a close is very much a relief.
My DD has received a nomination and we are waiting to hear if she has an appointment.

It really depends on a number of factors: how competitive the DS/DD is, how the competition is within the MOC applications, and what the MOC's approach is to nominations. There is no one answer or approach.

My DS emailed both Booker and Menendez offices last Thursday 12/7 to inquire when notifications for nominations will be sent out.
Booker's office replied that they will let candidates know in February by mail whether or not they have received a nomination.

Menendez's office replied that they will let candidates know in January, but will only hear if they have received a nomination.

I’m in NY. If my congressman is planning on nominating me to USNA once all interviews are complete, does that mean I automatically won’t receive a nomination from either senator (even if my interviews went really well and I’m pretty sure I would get the nomination)?

I heard that NY senators wait so long to submit their slates because they want to see what the congressmen do, and make sure not to nominate someone already with a nomination... can someone please confirm/deny?

I feel like qualified applicants with senators who don’t nominate people already with nominations are at a disadvantage compared to senators who DO nominate...

Thanks in advance for the help!

I've been reading this forum for months, but this is my first post. We're waiting to hear from the TX Senators as well. Our MOC notified my DS that he would conduct interviews in January. Patience truly is a virtue!

A virtue, but a tough one, to be sure! [emoji41]
