DS received nomination letter from Kaine to USMA (via USPS) this afternoon, a "regrets" email from Warner on Wednesday, and nothing yet from Garrett VA-5. Has LOE to USMA & 3Q'd. LOA to AFA.

DD received USNA nomination from Missouri Senator 2 and USAFA nomination from Missouri Congressional District 2. Also received LOA from USAFA. We are so proud of her and many thanks to our Senator and Congresswoman and their staffs. Christmas has indeed come early to our house. The military is mainly what our DD thinks about!

Hey Guys,

So I have interviewed with Senator Toomey, Casey and Congressman Smucker (PA-16) and I haven't heard anything back from them in terms of a nomination decision. Word on the street is that we should be hearing back before christmas. Has anyone else in PA heard back?

Received nomination from Congressman Thompson (R-PA 5), have not heard anything from Senators.

For the people living in Virginia, has anyone received a declined letter from Senator Kaine?

Only nomination to USAFA, to which he responded yes! Kaine's letter did ask my DS to reply to link accepting the nomination (he's using a full 10 competitive field). I think Kaine has a longer list he's going down if/when any nominees turn down the nomination he goes down to the next one on his list to offer a slot.

VAtwinsmom, it's hard to imagine why anyone would refuse the nomination unless not interested in a service academy anymore. So, I can't imagine there were many refusals, if any. So, it's probably not a long list!

You never know. My son received his Representatives Nom and then got his Appointment already to USMMA. Two weeks later he got a call from Senators office that he got another Nom for USMMA. DS politely declined the Nom and informed them he already not only had a Nom but the appointment as well - so that they could make it available to someone else if they desired.

PA16 came in mail today. DS yes from Smucker for USMMA. Now if we can quit getting these stupid remedials from DODMERB!! They now want a letter saying his pneumonia from August is gone. After a season of X-Country? Really??

Still have not heard from Rep Connolly (VA-11) or Virginia Senators.

I received a nom from Sen Warner to usna and my friend received a Kaine nom to usafa within the last two weeks. We are both from VA-10.
Did you receive it in mail? Is it updated on your portal?

Congratulations! Did Senator Warner state what kind of nomination? Did you receive the principal nom or is it a competitive slate of 10 he is submitting?

He didn’t state what kind. I actually haven’t heard about those before- what’s the difference?

From my understanding, please anyone correct me if I'm wrong, MOCs can choose a "competitive slate" option where they have a top 10 list of candidates they submit to the various academies and then the academies pick the best ONE from the list who then receives the actual nomination. OR, MOCs can choose who they feel is the best ONE and that candidate receives the nomination.

MOCs can nominate in a couple different ways.

1- Principal with numbered alternates. If the principal nominee is qualified, he is offered appointment. If not qualified, the next alternate is offered, and keep moving down the list until a qualified candidate is found.

2- Principal with competitive alternates. Again, if Principal is qualified, he is offered appointment. If not, the 9 alternates all compete for appointment with West Point deciding who gets the appointment.

3- Competitive. All 10 nominees compete, with West Point deciding which 1 gets the nomination. Most MOCs use this one, as it assures the least "political" favoritism.
