Anyone can add comments / inputs on WA-6 Congressional district competitiveness for nomination to these Academies and which academy is more in demand in this district:

1. USNA
2. USAFA
3. USMA

I'm from WA state. I don't know for individual congressional districts, but WA as a whole has more people apply to USNA because of the many naval posts. I heard this from a Merchant Marine Mid. So i would assume for WA-6, which is the most northwest and most near the water, that USNA is the most competitive there.

I see. Makes sense. Than you.

DD got a nomination from Sen. Moran (KS) hasn't heard from Sen Roberts and Congressman Marshall interview is Saturday.
I have seen several news articles announcing Sen. Roberts' noms dated around 11/20 (tomorrow) for the past few years. There is a thread from 2014 that shows candidates received letters from him that were postmarked around 12/15. I imagine we hear back this week if not the next.

Has anyone trying to get nomination heard anything from district 13 in Texas yet? Or is it to early?

Just got back from an interview for Carper (DE)! Is anyone familiar with how long it takes to hear back?
Delaware tends to announce nominations at the same time. Usually right before Christmas or shortly after the first of the year

DS finally has an interview set up with our representative. One senator sent an email saying his panel doesn't review application until January and the other we have heard nothing from. Anyone from Kentucky heard anything from Mitch McConnell? Or know what his process is?

Greetings fellow hopeful academy candidates, parents & experienced folk

Yesterday (Monday, 11-19-18) my DS received a letter in the mail from our congressman (Glenn Grothman, Wisconsin 6th District) awarding him nominations to all four Service Academies. There was no mention of any "principle" nominations, but I believe (am not sure) that Congressman Grothman doesn't give Principle Noms, unlike his predecessor Tom Petri. Mr. Grothman hasn't published anything in the media regarding nominations since he was elected three years ago, so it's hard to know how he handles Noms, or how competitive the Wisconsin 6th District really is.

Anyway, my DS hasn't received any LOAs, but he is 3Q'd, so I'm wondering just how good a sign these Noms are? From what I've read on this forum, and in Wisconsin news articles, it looks like Wisconsin Noms are usually issued in mid December. Are my DS' Noms early? Does getting all four Noms from the same source indicate that our district is under-represented at the academies, thus increasing his odds?

At this point we're just sweating it out. He has worked so hard over the last several months and now all he can do is wait.......for maybe up to another five months. EGADS!

Great news.

Your DS could always call the MOC staffer who works with the Rep’s nom process and inquire politely if they were willing to share if they used the principal nomination, ranked or unranked slates methods. They may or may not disclose their method, even if they used the principal method and your DS is that principal.

I don’t believe USNA informs candidates if they are 3Q, but if he is for USMA, that could bode well for others.

Getting 4 noms to the 4 of 5 SAs who use that process can’t be bad. There is no use speculating what that means. Other candidates may only have applied to 1 SA.

Elected officials can finish and submit their slates between now and their deadline. The SAs may choose to offer appointments at any time or hold off.

The only thing he can do at this point is stay strong in HS, work on PT for stress relief and to build stamina and endurance, stay out of trouble, remain healthy and unbroken and hug his family members for hanging with him through this roller coaster ride. Oh - and still keep the Plan B ready to go.

Congrats on the nominations. We are in District 6 and my son got one of his nominations from Rep. Petri in 2006. Petri did not use the principal nomination method for his slates. The 6th district is not normally very competitive for nominations to any service academy. Son had an early LOA and got his nomination before Thanksgiving and appointment in early December. I would say your son looks to be in a very good position for an appointment.

Good evening Capt MJ,

Thank you for the words of encouragement and advice. It's always good to read your responses.

Your're certainly right about USNA, and the other academies for that matter, not informing candidates of their 3Q status. I've been sort of assuming 3Q based on DS' communications with the academies. For me the 3Q confusion rests in the academic portion. My DS passed (No Risk) his CFA in June at SLE and was informed by DoDMERB that he's medically qualified for all four academies (all four of his candidate portals are updated with both qualifications), but there's nothing in any of the candidate portals that confirm academic qualification. They will only confirm that they've gotten everything they want or need and that his application is complete, and that's it.

It's more of an issue for us because DS is homeschooled. He's having to rely more heavily on his standardized test scores, which are above the 75th percentile in the academy class profiles. I submitted all of his transcript information months ago, and haven't been asked for anything more. DS found people to do his School Official Evaluations, Letters of Recommendation, etc. All of the academies have told us that they've got everything they want for now, and they haven't asked for anything since. However, they have advanced him through the application process by setting up his DoDMERB physicals and his Liaison interviews long after his academics were uploaded.

I don't know.......I think I worry too much. DS has shouldered the burden of this process and I've only been involved where I'm supposed to be (transcripts, mostly), but I fret about him not getting an appointment because I dropped the ball in some detail area.

Parenthood.....Yeesh!

Happy Holidays Stealth_81,

It's good to hear from you again! Thank you for the words of encouragement, they are comforting. I truly hope that an appointment is forthcoming, and sometime way before March/April. Up until now I've managed to stave off the gray hair, but this might be it for me!

Has anyone received a nomination from N.J. yet?

Nothing yet here in NJ! Senator interview was Nov 11
North Jersey Interviews were Nov 10 and 11 but the South Jersey (Rowan University site) interviews were on Nov 17. I have not head for sure yet but in recent years the Senators hold additional interviews for stragglers over the Christmas holidays in Newark.
