But they ask for stamped postcards, so they can comfirm they received the application. No one got their postcards back.
We are with you on this. DS did receive his postcard back from Feinstein's office, but not from Harris. Since my DS is a re-applicant, I encouraged him to send his application packages with return receipt through USPS. That way he had peace of mind that at least they arrived at the office of the MOC. He did receive the return receipt from all of his applications, including Harris' office. I guess you can only control what you can control....what happens once the file gets there is a toss-up..sad to say

A minute ago DD checked the SA website and found out that she got two noms, one from senator Booker (NJ) and another from our MOC. The weirdest part was that nobody called from the senators office. MOC office called on Wednesday though they missed her and left a message. SA did not send a website update message either - DD just decided to check it on a whim. What a nice surprise!

Congrats!

You are not alone... our MOC (office/staffer) was very low profile... no phone call, no letter, just a simple email ... but that's okay... my DS got the Nom and that's what counts!

Congrats again!!!

I need to correct the score here: I just checked voicemails on our home answering machine we never use these days and, lo and behold, there WAS a message about nomination there from Cory Booker’s staff to my DD on Thursday. So as an advice - monitor all the phone numbers you list in the application. The irony is still that my DD missed calls about both noms and the first time we saw it was at the USAFA portal.

This year's nomination period has ended but for future applicants, this is what we observed the last two years for Feinstein and Harris nominations.

Feinstein returned postcards to all applicants. Her board interviewed a very select group. They announced nominations about 2 weeks later. They sent out emails to non-recipients 3-4 weeks later.

Harris mailed back some postcards to some early applicants. Many did not get their postcards returned. Her board interviewed a very select group. They announced nominations closer to the 1/31 deadline. There were surprise nominations received from candidates who had not interviewed. Non-recipients did not get an email.

If any CA applicant had a different experience with the two senators, please correct me. Overall the Feinstein office seemed much more engaged and organized.

Mostly true as far as I can tell. My son got neither postcard back though. He did get a Feinstein email confirming not getting nominated. Not complaining about the surprise Harris nomination he received though. Quite a surprise. It showed up in his portal- no email or other communication as of yet. But it being in his portal is most important.

Finally heard back from Van Hollen. Although I was passed over because I already had a nomination from my representative, feels good to finally hear something. Just now waiting on Cardin.

I received a Feinstein nom and I can confirm this

I got a nomination for USMMA 4 days ago. My senator and my congressman nominated me to USAFA (which is what I'm still hoping for). I didn't mind that I didn't have noms anywhere else because even though that would have been cool, I want USAFA and the rest were plan B.

BUT, then out of the blue USMMA contacts me the day before the due date and the admissions counselor said I should really get my essay in....so I did of course (no reason not to follow through on plan B). I told him I don't have a nom, but THEN he calls me and asks some questions and said he was going to go "work on a nomination." 20 minutes later, I have a nomination! From where I have no clue, but I thought I'd share it :)

@TLINAU2230, are you a recruited athlete? DD had an informal visit with a coach and it sounded as if they were able to "find" a nom if needed in a pinch. It sounded a bit like a Supt nom. Not sure if that's correct or how many are out there, but I found it interesting.

Nope. I play varsity baseball and basketball and have a letter in both and the MVP in baseball but I'm not a recruited athlete. Not sure exactly what attracted the attention. I have a lot of leadership experience working at a youth camp and reasonable SAT and ACT scores (1460 and 32) but I don't know exactly what made them want to find me a nom

Hello!

Is it a good sign to receive three nominations? I got one from Senator Cantwell, Senator Murray, and Congressman Smith. I have never heard of senators nominating the same person but I’m probably not the only one. I’ve just been really anxious these past few weeks as some people in Washington have already been appointed to USNA.

Well, if you received 3 to USNA then congrats, it means you are competing on 3 slates which is a good thing. Our DS also received 3 to USNA, he was really humbled and happy to have them. Keep your eye on the prize until April, even May! Good luck to you!
