All Delaware Nominations have been submitted. DD received 3 nominations to USMA, 3 nominations to USAFA and 1 to USMMA (did not apply here?)--now we wait! She will be sending in 7th semester grades and updated resumes to USAFA and USMA at the end of January. She has an LOE to West Point..would it be inappropriate of her to ask her FFO how many LOA/LOE's were given out for the State of Delaware?

Nominations to academies that DD didn't even apply to? Amazing! We're moving to your district next year for kid #3 haha. Sincerely, Congratulations!

Being in a small state has its advantages from a numbers perspective! USMA and USNA are pretty competitive due to region (DD goes to a Military HS that is NJROTC and they typically have 10 or so applicants to USNA from their school alone). USAFA I do not believe is as competitive from a state perspective and I would suspect the same about USMMA. DD applied to all SA's except for USMMA but did not receive a nomination for USNA but it was not her first choice and I think the MOC's take that into account. She did not play the "change the order of preference game" with different MOC's and left USMA as her first choice on all three. She is hoping with three it will increase her chances of appointment since they will have some choices where to charge the nomination. Time will tell.

Did your DD initially state in her nomination packets that she would be seeking entrance to USMMA, and then eventually choose not to?

No she did not have it listed on any of her MOC lists. USMA, USAFA and USNA in that order so she is thinking it is a mistake and has contacted the Congresswomen as she would hate for a nomination to go to waste when someone else can use it or worse yet it was intended for someone else specifically.

My son got his rejection from Toomey yesterday explaining that they do not double nominate and since he got a nomination from our congressman that he will not be receiving another nomination.
My question is, out of PA 16 congressional districts, there will be 160 kids nominated through their congressman, so it seems that the senator is now picking from kids that weren’t in the top 160 in the state? Meaning no offense but this doesn’t seem right that a kid gets a higher spot by earining a principal nomination from a senator when they didn’t rank in the top 10 in their own district? Am I thinking through this wrong?
I know this is just the “way it is” but it’s defintiely a bit broken. I agree with sharing the wealth but I would think the senator should still be able to double nominate for the few couple of slots in their slate to ensure the most qualified kid gets a fair shot

I don't know how true that is as my daughter received a nomination from Congressman and Casey.

Congrats to your daughter! Sounds like she is one of the few that will get lucky and get double nominated even though a rep from Casey’s office told me via email they do try to specifically elimate that from happening to ensure as many qualified Pennsylvanians get a nomination as possible there is no guarantee it eliminates it from happening every once in a while.

FL2018 & Kallen:

I suspect most of the coordination occurs between senators.

My grandson was a principal nominee to USAFA and 1st alternate to USNA via our senior senator. Our junior senator--who does competitive nominations and not a numbered slate as does our senior senator--gave grandson a USMA nomination even though he did not apply there and so told the interviewing committee.

Our congressional representative is not the same party as our two senators. Grandson received nominations from him to both USNA and USAFA. Our representative, like our junior senator, does competitive nominations and not a ranked slate.

This leads me to believe that much of the coordination is between senators, particularly those of the same party.

My MOC already notified that I have received a nom from her for USNA, but hasn't sent our district's nominations to USNA yet. Therefore I don't have a nomination for USNA yet. Will this affect my chances for appointment? Because I know that a large wave of appointments come out in mid January; will this cause a delay in a decision on my application?
