Just wondering if anyone from NJ has heard back about a nomination? I’m from NJ04 and am still waiting. I know NJ is usually late in the process, but just wanted to know if there’s been any news!

Thank you!

DS just got a nom from VA-06 (Goodlatte). I’d been wondering if being on two slates would be possible for him and thankfully it was! Also has a senator nom (Warner).

And DD received Congr. nom today so all is well.

Congrats on your DD’s nomination and LOA!

My DS is in the same boat waiting for Senator Tina Smith’s office to pick up where Franken left off, although he does not have an LOA. We haven’t heard anything about an interview date yet. It’s hard to know how patient to be since Smith just took office, but that January 31st deadline will come quickly.

My DS has a congressional nomination to USAFA. It showed up in his portal a few weeks ago, but there has been no contact from the MOC office. (Not sure if we are waiting for a phone call, email, or letter in the mail.)

It would be nice to at least have the opportunity to compete for Smith’s senate slate. We also haven’t heard anything from Senator Klobuchar’s office after the November interviews, but perhaps they are waiting to coordinate noms.
Congrats on the nom! If DS has a congressional nomination already, what is the reason for wanting to hear from the senators?
Thank you! DS does not have LOA, so from what I can tell, he is just one of ten on the congressional slate, if it is a full slate. We haven't heard anything from the MOC (no call, email, snail-mail) about the nom even though it posted to his SA portal on December 28th, so we have no idea if it is a competitive slate, a full slate of ten, or if they designate a principle nom. If we had some answers to those questions, it might make a senate nom unnecessary. However, from reading these posts, it would seem that it is important to be placed on as many slates as possible. (At this point, I don't even know if the MN senators coordinate their noms, as we haven't heard anything back from Senator Klobuchar's office, even though that interview was in November. Obviously, the congressional nom was not contingent on the senators' nomination process.)

DS called Senator Smith's office today and left a message, inquiring about the process. That way they know he is still interested in pursuing any and all available opportunities to earn a nomination in our state. But time keeps on ticking and there isn't much time to notify candidates for interviews, conduct the interviews, and make decisions before January 31st...

He also needs to fill out the Vice Presidential nomination form. Is that really just an online, fill-in-the-blank form that is submitted? It states that recommendations should be sent to the respective SA. I assume those are already on file as the ones submitted with via the regular application process.

So new to all this! And I wish the DoDMERB site was up and running... we anticipate some remedials coming his way...
I remember hearing at one of the info sessions that MN Senator offices coordinate closely so duplicate noms in MN are rare.

It makes sense that the MN Senator offices coordinate, since we haven't heard anything back from Sen. Klobuchar and, as of yet, we haven't even gone through the interview process with Sen. Smith's office. So have you also heard or learned from experience that all three offices (senator, senator, and representative) coordinate, therefore making it rare to receive any more than one nomination in Minnesota? I thought when folks say that the senators coordinate their noms, that just meant coordination between their two offices, leaving the possibility of a nom from a senator and representative.

I noticed your DD accepted a USAFA appointment... Congratulations to her and your family! Is it possible to share what district you are from, or is that too much personal information for this forum? Either way, wishing you all the best!

DS a few years back in MN received both MOC & one Senatorial, seems you are correct Senators try not to double nominate however MOC does duplicate. Makes sense leaving it to the Academy to choose best candidates.

Just wondering if anyone has heard back from TX22 Pete Olsons office about nominations

My DS received a rejection letter from Lance (NJ-07) in the mail January 2nd, still waiting to hear from Booker and Menendez

Thank you for responding, I’m sorry to hear that. Wishing your DS the best of luck with Booker and Menendez.

Today I spoke with a staffer for Sen. Smith in Minnesota. Her office won't be conducting interviews this year since she is new as of the beginning of Jan. and time is running short, and will instead consult with the rest of the delegation from MN regarding nominations (Sen. Klobuchar's interviews were conducted in Nov.). Academies will be notified of the nominees by the Jan. 31st deadline. Postal letters will be sent in the next few weeks to the applicant's home address stating whether a NOM from Senator Smith's office was given or not. He didn't speak directly to the process for Sen. Klobuchar's office, but did indicate it is slightly different. The staffer indicated that the slate would be competitive so that the service academies can choose their appointees. I was also told this year there are two open slots at Navy and one slot open at each of the other three academies for a total of 50 nominations out of roughly 130-140 applicants.

DS recv'd a nomination from Sen. Peters (MI) today! SA portal reflects it (no letter from Sen. yet)... He has a LOA, so it looks like its time to buy some boots.

I would prefer to not disclose the MN district. Thank you for the congratulations and well wishes. Good luck to DS!
