Noms are required by law to attend a SA..... but yes, this process is SO different from what DS's older sister experienced when applying to civilian colleges. Once her applications were submitted in November, there was NOTHING to talk about with anyone.... just wait until January for the acceptance emails to start rolling in, sit back and have your pick from the lot! This is good prep to be a parent of a future soldier though!
They are not required for USCGA which is also a SA.

Oh my gosh, THANK YOU for getting that info and sharing with us Cali people! I was going to call this week too... Side note, did anyone receive the self-addressed postcard (confirming receipt) back from either CA senator? It was definitely sent with time to spare, but would be relieved to get that confirmation from them.

DS got both of his postcards back relatively quickly. Feinstein sent it back within a week, Harris within 2 weeks.

My son is also interviewing in TX-25 on Saturday! He is taking it all in stride, but I am very nervous for him. Does the 200/800 refer to the senator's group of applicants? My son's USAFA evaluator seem to think the interviews would be very short in our district because of the large number of applicants.

Yes, 200/800 is a Texas senator pool.

Also, Sen. Cornyn's staffer today in response to my son's email on how late he can re-rank his service academy preferences (due to DQ/waiver issues) said the deadline was Dec. 5th because the review committee is meeting on Dec. 6th.

Funny I did not get the impression we had a large number of applicants but not a small amount either. Not sure what I am basing that on though. No idea how long the interview will last.

Our DS just received an email from our State Representative in CO District 1 about his upcoming interview and it states the interviews will be done as a group interview alongside other candidates. Has anyone else experienced a group interview and if so if you can share any insight would be great!

Our school district interviews employees in panel interviews! Each person takes a turn at answering a question first and then it goes down the line from there. I have been on both sides of the table, so here are few things to keep in mind...
  1. tell DS to relax the best he can. Everyone hates doing a panel interview!
  2. They already know that people are going to have similar answers. The trick is to keep what you want to say in mind while still paying attention to what others are saying. It is hard to do this, but if someone “takes” his answer he can say “ like candidates A, B, and C just said, I feel the same way ..BUT I would like to add on..x, y, and z.
  3. We do pay attention to how the candidates interact with each other. The last person I hired was because she was kind to the candidate next to her who was struggling with an answer. That stood out and spoke of her character. She has been a great employee in our district!
  4. They are only doing this format because it is time effective for them. If your DS is a great package already, then this is just “ face time” to confirm what they already know. They are just seeing how he will interact with other people in a stressful situation. The best thing to do is to present as calm and considerate of both the panel’s time and the other candidates they selected to pair him with
  5. Good luck and keep us posted!

We only received only one self-addressed, stamped envelope back from the two nom packets sent out. They went via USPS Priority Service (which included a tracking feature), otherwise we would not have known the second packet made it safely
We did priority mail for Sen Harris as well so I know they received it. We mailed regular mail to Sen Feinstein but no post card returned. Are they supposed to return regardless if they are interested in interviewing you or not?

they very may well have, but well, things do get lost in the mail. The one envelope we received back was unsealed and miraculously the 3x5 card was still in there. I wondered because we did not send an actual "postcard" we did not receive notification back in packet #2? Where do you even buy a post card these days, other than touristy spots??

Funny you should ask where to get a postcard. I bought a postage paid postcard from the post office. The weird thing was that it didn't really look postage paid - there was a funky design where the stamp typically goes. I didn't think anything of it, I mean I'm getting it from the post office, right? My DS was like "what is this?" He put our address on it, put it in the envelope and that was it. I'm wondering if it was pushed aside? We didn't get either back, but like @Veridicalride I sent priority mail with the tracking feature. Glad I paid the extra $5!

TEXAS -

Senator Cruz's panel just met very recently. I believe they are in the coordination/review phase now. Notifications expected around mid-December. As mentioned in my earlier post, Senator Cornyn's panel is meeting Dec. 6th.

Anyone from MA hear from congressman/senators for scheduling interviews? We are patiently waiting.......
